Blackthorne 3-D Series

The Blackthorne 3-D Series is a series of 3-D comics - one-shots and mini-series - published by Blackthorne Publishing in the late 1980s. Many of these are special 3-D versions of already existing comics or comic book adaption of classic and successful films and franchises (e.g. California Raisins). The series was cancelled when Blackthorne filed for bankruptcy by the end of 1989. A major reason was the flop of one such comic book adaption, MOONWALKER in 3-D, that had cost Blackthorne a huge license fee.

Indicia & Dual-Numbering:

Per indicia most of the comic books are dual-numbered with the individuals series' title and numbering coming first, followed by "Blackthorne 3-D Series" and its serially numbering:

• "DICK TRACY 3-D #1, Blackthorne 3-D Series #8"
• "MOONWALKER in 3-D #1, Blackthorne 3-D Series #75"

SHEENA 3-D SPECIAL #1 is not dual-numbered as per indicia.

Duplicate dual-numbering:

• Betty Boop in 3-D #1, Blackthorne 3-D Series #11
• LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND 3-D #1, Blackthorne 3-D Series #11*
• RAMBO III in 3-D #1, Blackthorne 3-D Series #49
• Sad Sack in 3-D #1, Blackthorne 3-D Series #49

*LITTLE NEMO is numbered as #13 in subsequent listings (and Overstreet).

The following numbers are missing and most likely do not exist: #56, 68, 73, 76-79. This brings the total number of associated titles to 74 with NOID in 3-D #2 having the highest serial numbering with #80.
