Swing And A Miss?
Titus attempts to escape the Eyrie…or at least it appears that way at first.
My Thoughts:Blackhawks was a series I didn't pick up initially. I was late to the party and picked up the first and second issues last month. When I read them both I was impressed enough to continue following it this month. Unfortunately the series sort of lost the flare it had. This issue wasn't horrible, but it wasn't enough to satisfy me.
Mike Costa is the series writer. I've never read anything from him prior to this so I had no idea of the kind of writer he would be. I'm not going to say he's bad after only reading three issues of his work. I will say he failed to draw me into the story this issue. I'm not sure where this series is heading or what he's trying to accomplish. It's been sort of fun and confusing at the same time. Some of these characters seem like they could be pretty cool and fit in with the DC Universe. The idea of this team I like but I don't think it's being handle as well as it could be. In time this series could mature into something worth following. If it doesn't do it sooner rather than later it may not have the opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up canceled.
The art isn't too bad but it definitely could use some improvement. Graham Nolan is credited for the layouts and Trevor Scott the finisher. A lot of times the art feels a little choppy and blotchy.
Unfortunately I'm going to be dropping this series. I'd pick it up in trade eventually but it's just not exciting enough to continue following each month. I hope it improves because the concept is solid and the characters seem intriguing but the story right now isn't compelling enough.
