The Avengers is almost here and it seems everyone has nothing but good things to say about it. In one of the various clips released, we got to see some pretty cool Black Widow action. The more we see of her, the more impressed we get.

Last month word came out that Black Widow would be appearing in Iron Man 3. It wasn't an official release but apparently the character and Scarlett Johansson were listed on a casting sheet along with Gwynth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle as Rhodey/War Machine. We've been hearing rumblings about filming taking place in China along with some other scientist-type characters being cast. Adding in Black Widow could take the movie in a different direction. Now it seems that won't be the case.

In an interview for The Avengers at Screen Rant, Johansson mentioned she will not be the movie but is hoping to be in her own movie. She mentioned that the solo movie could have a Jason Bourne-esque feel to it. That would definitely bring the Marvel Movies to a different place. There has been talk of a solo Black Widow movie before. Perhaps we may end up seeing it after all.

I'm glad to her this, I was a little annoyed when it was first announce that she would star once again next to Iron Man as it felt like they were just pushing her into his movie where I really felt her presence isn't needed. If anything, I would actually want her to have her own movie and see Marvel flesh out her character and explore her past much more in-depth for those who aren't as familiar with her character or origins. But if not that, I could see her staring in the next Captain America sequel seeing as S.H.I.E.L.D. will most likely have a heavy presence in that movie but also because I would love for them to try and bring Bucky (whom I hope will return as Winter Soldier in the Cap sequel) and Natasha's romance that we see in the comics, a long shot yes, but I guy can hope. :P

She should get her own movie. At least we would get to know more about her history with Hawkeye they kept referencing in the Avengers movie.

@War Killer: Just because they were referencing her history with Hawkeye is doesn't mean she can't have one with Bucky... especially since she said in the movie that she started young... :)

I really REALLY think that they could give her and Hawkeye a movie and still pull of the Bourne feel to it. I think it could be close to origins also where they are both on the 'other' side and get pulled into SHIELD.

Well at least we can still see Black Widow in the Avengers movies

She probably has it in her contract that she gets her own movie and be in the Avengers movies. But probably no more cameos were listed.

They should do a Black Widow movie - and start taking Cap in a similar direction - the Brubaker runs on Cap have been superior. Would give them an opportunity to bring Bucky/Winter Soldier back into the fold too.

She actually carried the whole movie with RDJ. IMO, they've got the best lines and scenes. I'm hoping she gets her own movie and maybe some cameos.

You get paid millions per movie. Mickey Rourke managed an accent. She should have done so too. There's no excuse. She should've reverted back to Russian accent when she revealed her cover. Natalie Rushman should've been just an American cover.

I am so happy, and glad, I am hoping that it is true she not in Iron Man 3, But what I want to hear is that she will not be getting her only movie, if she does that will be one I will not be seeing or buying, and we all know that it will fail, Scarlett Johansson does not have the talent to be the main star in her only movie.

If she gets her own movie, and Bucky/Winter Soldier is in it she would probably co-star in Captain America 2 and then get her own movie, as much as I think a Black Widow movie would be cool, I am not going to hold my breath.

If Bucky isn't in it it would probably co-star Hawkeye and be a SHEILD movie. This would be much less cool than if Bucky was in it...

I'm rooting for a Widow movie for sure, so its not a total loss if she isn't in Stark 3 for me.

Gosh all these haters, Scarlett Jo was amazing as black widow in the avengers, she had some of the best scenes throughout the movie, and seriously theres no other person who can replace scarlett jo.

So i would so see her solo movie, it'll be mean az!

Ok, it doesnt matter if BW shows up in IM3 or not it, it certainly wouldnt detract from the movie if she did even if its only in an Agent Coulson-esque capacity.

However after seein the Assemble.. I have to say she deserves if not her own movie, one where she gets significantly more (screen)time to flesh out her quite touching/intrigueing take on this character shes made her very own.. the sensible solution (u listening/lurking Marvel?) would be to make a SHIELD movie comprising the trinity of Fury/Barton/Romanov.. focusing on the latters background/recruitment into the organisation &with possible cameos from any number of Marvel big hitters..

&NO winter soldier (yet) we havent even had 2nd Cap movie..so everyone jus calm the frack down.

They'd better make a black widow movie.

I really hope that she gets her own movie !!!! :D And I was hoping that it shows more of her espionage side like in Salt or bourne :D I already accepted Sarlett Johansson as Black Widow and I think she does a great job !

I'm okay with this, for two reasons: 

 1) While the film character has had supporting roles up to this point, they've been significant supporting roles. Her presence had purpose. Putting her into IM3 "just because" would be stupid.

2) She needs her own goddamn film. Scarlett Johansson is a fantastic actress for this genre. She gets it. I never would have thought of her for either this genre or this role, but she's brought her A-game and owns it. 

The tragedy is that it will never happen.

Marvel Studios is too young in the business to say "screw it" and make a movie with a strong female lead, and this genre of movies is way too fickle to know for sure it would work. If you don't believe me, watch Elektra which starred Jennifer Garner - Johansson's predecessor in the realm of comic-book films that also "got it" and owned her respective character. 

...but she was part of an ensemble cast for over half of the film. Plus, the alien itself was a big part of the audience draw. And every sequel since has had her as part of yet another group of humans tracking down/surviving against alien(s).

Can anyone think of a successful sci-fi film with a single female lead? Because I can't.

And for the record - this sucks.

So back to Johansson's Black Widow...

Should she have a solo Black Widow film? Absolutely. 

 Will it happen? Not in a million years.

However, I see no reason why she can't be in a film where...

1) she teams up with another character like Hawkeye or Cap.

2) she teams up with a new character like Carol Danvers or Jessica Drew.

3) she gets her own movie with a plot similar to La Femme Nikita, where she's taken from her home and trained by someone as part of a team and then captured and re-trained by S.H.I.E.L.D..

4) she teams up with Coulson - 'cause that would be awesome.

So the bottom line here is that with such a great actress in such a great role in their possession, Marvel Studios would be stupid not to do something more with Black Widow. I'm sure they know it and will come up with a solution because...

I don't think as international spy she should have accent to identify her nationality. Besides, I don't think she speaks with a russian accent in the comics either.

I dislike the Bourne franchise, I do not think of their intellectual property, Black Widow should be shoved to the front. Of all the uninteresting characters. Oh well. Ms. Marvel will never get her moment on the screen dammit.

WHY?!! Halley Berry was to get her James Bond Character spin off and that didn't happen! I guess no one wants to see a lead spy girl on film. No not Charlie's Angels...thats a team and VERY CAMPY. doesn't count!

HAYWIRE, NO...That's a double cross thriller, those are easy. Its like being in a survivor slasher film.

With Alias (Awesome), Covert Affairs (Great), but then the failed couples spy tv series from the man behind Lost & The Star Trek Reboot. One might think to call the R word into this...but I'll hold my breath just a little more.

Everyone in all these spy stories is HOT/Capable and Great on screen...But I seem to see a failing somewhere. True we have a new Nikita (Also Great). But still the comfort zone seems (AND I MAY BE WAY OFF) to not favor a Lead Female African American super spy.

NO Austin Powers is VERY CAMPY...it doesn't count. And I mean Lead, not sharing the spotlight, a lead. Iike James Bond. Examples: Alias, Covert Affairs and New Nikita.

This is what I've been saying since people flipped their lids when she didn't have an accent in Iron Man 2.
