An impressive start
I've never been a fan of the Black Widow. All her previous series and appearances have really passed me by - I mean, I love the art in Uncanny X-men 268, but it doesn't make me care to read about Black Widow some more. But reading this issue has really got me hooked. Marjorie Liu shows here in this first issue that she has really got a good idea and a direction that she is going to take Black Widow in in a new ongoing series - tough, determined, capable, feminine, real. Black Widow is immediately thrown into a mystery and a serious threat to her existence, but who is it? And as much as she clearly has male allies, it looks to me like this is going to be something that she will eventually need to take care of solo and I can't wait to see how she does it. I personally loved Daniel Acuna's art in this issue - I thought it had a noir-ish, cool realism to it, and in the fight scenes a punchy, striking quality that reminded me a little of Sin City (a very toned-down Sin City of course!!). One of the best comics I've read in a long while.
