Birdy wants to Fly
Birdy was briefly the partner of the homocidal mercenary known as Sabretooth. She was hired because of her powers. She used her telepathy to temporarily soothe his homicidal rages (an effect referred to as "the glow") which led Sabretooth to become dependent on her.
Eventually Birdy wanted to get away from him, but she knew he would never led her go. She then sold Sabretooth out to a mercenary whom sent a death-squad to his mansion. While Sabretooth was taken away, Birdy was hoping to get away. Her plan failed, when Sabretooth returned, with a bomb inside of him. Once he got a hold of her again, he asked for her help in finding out who had put a bomb inside of him and sent him on a mission to kill Mystique. This lead them to Paris, where Mystique revealed the existence of Graydon Creed, Sabretooth's son to the pair. They tracked him down and after Creed had the bomb inside of him removed, they faced Graydon. Just to spite his father, Graydon stabbed and killed Birdy. Without Birdy's telepathic suppression, Sabretooth was left unchecked and fell back into his feral rages.
During the time when Sabretooth's mind was reduced to a child-like state he was reminded of Birdy while he was in the X-mansion. Her death brought much pain to Sabretooth while he was in that state.
