    100 Words Or Less

After the deadly fight against White Canary, Black Canary heads to Bangkok. Meanwhile, Oracle has rebonded with Savant and Creote and wants them to join the team at their new base of operations in Kord Tower. The rest of the team recovers and Huntress and Lady Blackhawk also travel to Bangkok, where they are immediately greeted by deadly warriors under the tutelage of Black Canary?!

    So Then I Said...

I think this is the first issue of Birds of Prey where I was slightly disappointed. It felt very much like a transition issue, an issue meant to bridge the gap from the explosive first arc and what happens next. Black Canary is en route to Bangkok with White Canary, which seemed a little too easy for me, since they were just battling to the death moments ago. Oracle is now safe and Savant and Creote are seemingly on her side again. The rest of the team is just all banged up and nursing their injuries. The issue does redeem itself at the end though, when we see that Black Canary was the master that sent the welcoming team to greet Huntress and Lady Blackhawk. She's also dressed in White Canary's costume. The next issue should be interesting but this issue was just a little average.

Gail Simone still does a decent job with the story, even though I wanted more. However, my biggest gripe about this issue is probably the art. I miss Ed Benes. The first half of the comic wasn't too bad, I could really see that as animated stuff for television. But when we get into the second half of this issue, I was not digging it at all. I hope it's all just temporary and we get a primary artist that will constantly match the output of Gail Simone, in terms of quality.

    Bottom Line

Birds of Prey is still one of the best titles on the rack right now so my disappointment in this issue does not reflect the series, as a whole. In fact, my disappointment in this issue is a reflection of how highly I thought of the previous issues. Continue to pick this up, it's Part 1 of a 2-part arc and I have faith we'll be going into something big. Worth It.

Cover The cover art I think is really good. I think it is the best cover yet. Story Creote, Savant, and Oracle are on a rooftop. Creote and Savant recognize that they like each other and they were blind in the past not to see it. Oracle tells them that she is going to get them in a safe place. Black Canary and White Canary are done fighting and White Canary wants Dinah to come with her to Bangkok and she says yes. She calls Huntress and Oracle and says she is quitting. Oracle is in car while she...

The Good: The artist is temporarily different, but a lot of it looks really nice. Some of it compliments Ed Benes really well and the mood of this arc as an epilogue to the previous. Especially the first scene with Oracle. This is a crazy minor good point, but the logo looks a bit sharper and cooler in black. Oracle's aftermath discussion with Savant and Creote is very very heartwarming and has some nice character development and exploration. Kord Tower. Bwa Ha Ha ha! Huntress and Lady Blackhawk...
