    Excellent Art, Odd Plot

What an odd, queer, strange little book. I say this as a citizen of the United States that was raised in the West. I don't know Fresherluke's nationality, but he definitely has a Jorge Luis Borges vibe going. The heroine is a bikini-clad witch in the 1812 Old West. She walks around with a surf board. Does this make sense? No. But Fresherluke says it so it is so. We accept it because the creator doesn't make us think it is too out of place.

The thing I absolutely love about this book is the art. I don't know if it is pencil, coal, cave paints or whatever, but the strokes are gorgeous. The shading is perfect. The scenes are presented in a very cinematic way. The reader is invited to slow down and take in the scenery, more or less, as Whisky Jill has her adventure.

The only stumbling block that I have is the ending. I was willing to suspend my disbelief for the majority of this book. I could not, however, wrap my head around the return of two characters, as well as Whisky Jill's exit. As such, I cannot rate it any higher.

Some people may be concerned about the seemingly anti-religious message the book has. It does appear that the creator has a problem with how some people practice their religion. This may be where the "I don't have to do this book like other books just because you tell me I have to" vibe comes in. Who knows? But I, a highly religious person, could understand the hypocrisy being brought to light and why it is so vexing. This ends up being a refreshing look at motives and personal representations.

Fresherluke dubs this as Volume 1. I hope a second volume is soon to follow because I want more of that art. I also want to find out exactly what happened at the end of this book.
