After much speculation, we finally have confirmation as to what Disney's first animated Marvel movie will be. It's not what you might expect. While there have been rumors, according to the LA Times, BIG HERO 6 will get the animated movie treatment.

    No Caption Provided

The movie will be set in Japan and is described as an 'action-comedy' about a 'team of state-sanctioned superheroes.' Marvel was acquired by Disney in 2009 and this marks the first partnership between the two companies.

On Disney Animation's YouTube channel, the following clip was released:

The movie will feature CG-animation. Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter was pitched the idea for Big Hero 6 with a story containing 'Disney-friendly elements - a child hero, humor and a distinctive tone that played well with the animation studio's many Japanophiles."

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Big Hero 6,” an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the CG-animated “Big Hero 6” hits theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014.

The question is, how many of you read the actual comic?

This actually makes sense as animated series. Never know maybe it will encourage Marvel to take some more risks with their movies.

I know it's not what a lot of fans would want for a "FIRST" marvel/disney flick but I think it's a pretty cool idea that's not your default go to heroes. I will be expecting at least some sort of reference to other MARVEL stuff :P that would be great.

That would be because it isn't a trailer.

I've not read the original series but I've read the Chris Claremont series from a few years ago. It was a fun kid friendly series, and to tell the truth, it seems like the right kind of thing to pull from Marvel if you wanted start animating their stuff.

this is so lame. freaking d-man has had more appearances. and the trailer showed nothing, other than kinda mediocre cg. give us a spider-man movie, DD, FF, x-men hell even punisher would be awesome.

I've heard of them before, but never read the comics. I'm looking forward to the movie however.

I'm hoping the character style has a Tangled look to it. I really enjoyed the animation in that movie.

I am wondering one thing though: Will this open the possibilities to a Marvel Animated Universe the same way Iron Man did for Marvel's Cinematic Universe?

I hope that Disney doesn't end up killing off this series right in the middle of its story line like it did for Tron: Uprising as well as Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Anyone see Wreck-It-Ralph in the background? Couldn't relate or attach to these characters from the recent mini-series and 'Ends of the Earth' tie-in, but it is Disney animation. I'm interested.

One of my cousin's has been telling me to check out BH6's series for some time now. I've always been skeptical since I'm an anime/manga fan and it felt like Marvel's attempt to bring in manga readers with a team that's obviously meant to be based on anime/manga characters. That being said, I may have to track the series down now. After all I may end up going to see this and I don't wanna be the guy asking "Who's that?" since I'm sure there'll be a LOT of people doing that for me

Why are people asking about who the Big Hero 6 when they're on a website about comics and such. And since they went with such an obscure team as the Big Hero 6, this makes me think Disney/Marvel may decide to use lesser known groups instead of reusing characters like the Avengers and X-Men (though a return to Wolverine and the X-Men would be greatly appreciated). This could open up to maybe movies about the Runaways, Young Avengers (compete against the deceased Young Justice) the Loners, and maybe even the Young Allies

I'm very unfamiliar with these characters, but I kind of like that about this choice. They chose something so obscure that they can really make their own mark on. And it proves that this is not just an opportunity to cash in either.

I don't know if it's just early footage or if the resolution on my computer is messed up, but that "first look footage" looks really bad though. I had to check and see if it was a direct to video film. It's Disney, so I'm sure that animation quality won't be an issue at the actual time of release.
