Lacked some pizazz.
As in many comics in this era, this book is filled with several stories. Oddly it is not just Blue Beetle, Samson and the Flame. There is also a Cosmic Carson and Dr. Doom story. (Not that Dr. Doom, see link) The Blue Beetle story was the best story in this book but it was pretty straight forward.
The Samson story was so dull I actually started to fall asleep reading it. The next was the first of two Flame stories. Again these were dull and the second one was terrible. Until the end when the Flame surrounds the bad guys in a ring of fire. He then allows the ring to slowly close around the crooks as the scream for mercy. None is given and they are burned alive. The Flame is a ruthless vigilante and I had no idea until this book.
Cosmic Carson stops an alien invasion with no motive other the conquest. There was a gruesome scene however where an alien in injected with a serum that makes him grow until he is three times his size until he literally explodes. Dr. Doom is just plane mad and helps aliens from Venus take over earth.
All the super hero stories were basically the same dealing with hoods, and both the other stories dealt with a cheesy global domination. Over all the book was not horrible but even for it's day it lacked some pizazz. I only gave it two stars for this reason. Now, I would recommend this book to people who haven't read books from this era. I can tell you how to read this book for free. Just PM me.
