Betsy Boppins was one of the protagonists of the Oz series by Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919). She was introduced in the novel "Tik-Tok of Oz" (1914) . She is a girl from Oklahoma weho washed up onto the shores of Oz with her loyal mule Hank. Like Dorothy Gale, Betsy is headstrong and courageous. She is quicly drawn to various adventures.
Betsy is described having blonde or light-brown hair. She is supposedly a year older than Dorothy. Ruth Plumly Thompson's timeline of the Oz books estimates her to be 12 at her introduction. Betsy was also the protagonist of the "The Hungry Tiger of Oz" (1926). Like Dorothy and Tiny Trot she evolved into a constant companion of Ozma but rarely got the spotlight treatment in later books.
