Bernard An elderly man who owned a newsstand opposite of Gunga Diner on Fortieth and Seventh. He started business because his wife , Rose had died.
He supplies copies of The New Frontiersman for Walter Kovacs aka Rorschach at his newsstand regularly. Bernard was very talkative and gave opinion on current events with people that happened to be nearby.
Bernie A young black man who hung out at Bernard's newsstand sitting near a hydrant reading Tales of the Black Freighter. He reads the comic for free and at first Bernard doesn't like him doing so but his emotions change later on. He finds out that he and the news vendor share the same name.
