A 10 year old boy who came to possess the Omnitrix a device that allows him to transform into 1,900,003 different aliens; each with their own unique powers. Now older and possessing the Ultimatrix (an upgraded Omnitrix) Ben 10 is known as the greatest hero of the universe. Although now having an even better Omnitrix than its predecessors, Ben again considers himself the greatest hero and saved the universe a "billion times."

The Omnitrix has millions of alien d.n.a., but he didn't know how it worked and only had access to 10. Over time he gained access to more, to put it simply.
He had his original 10 aliens, but than the omnitrix reset to a new 10. At the end of season 1 of Ben 10 Alien Force the Galvin dude, unlocks the master control for Ben so he could change into anyone he wanted. However, at the end of the season the omnitrix resets to completely different aliens.
There are over a million different aliens in the omnitrix, arranged in sets of 10 for simplicity sake.
The omnitrix was designed to be a galactic Noah's Arc. Meaning it's original purpose was to store DNA of ever species. Therefore, if a species was ever eradicated the wielder of the omnitrix could bring them back.
