    New CN comic by IDW

After The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack, IDW tackles Cartoon Network's long running franchise Ben 10.

The Ben 10 franchise has a rocky road behind it. After a pretty strong start with the original Ben 10 series, it lost it's way with Alien Force, and then hit rock-bottom with Ultimate Alien, only to rise from it's ashes as Omniverse, better than ever before.

This of course makes the fact that the comic series adapts the Omniverse incarnation of the franchise a huge plus right from the start.

The story starts off rather simple with Ben going out on vacation, but constantly being interrupted by his fans and third-rate villains. Things however take a twist, when one of the villain's attacks seems not to be directed at Ben, but an oil rig which seems to be hiding something, not to mention a passenger who seems to know more than she lets on

The art is pretty close to that of the show, even if maybe less bright.

The characters, even if slightly subdued, do retrain their individual "voices"

And most importantly for a first issue, it makes me want to see what happens next

    3.5/5.0
