    he probably means in the future when he was animal man, but he wasnt really evil then either.

    i didnt even understand y the new flash was evil when bart and cyborg werent even evil at all the first time. and everybody else were just influenced by people like lex luthor.

    He turned evil in the 90s under the influence of the Mento helmet and then Raven drove him totally insane, to the point where it was implied that he killed a Terra lookalike and possibly ate her body at Raven's command (NT 118).  That ship is bad, bad news for him. I just don't understand how people can support that ship with that sort of background between Raven and Gar.  I think they either don't know it, or disregard it.
     
    Read the Terror of Trigon arc New Teen Titans #1-5 (especially issues 3-4 - themes shown there are picked up in the Darkening) and the Darkening storyline New Titans #97-130.  Esp issues 97, 100, 102, 114, 115, 118, 126-130.
