Origin
In the campy 1960s Batman television show it was customary for all items in Batman's arsenal to be preceded by the term Bat. So there was a first instance the Bat-shark repellent. Taking the joke perhaps too far the dance the batusi was invented which mostly consisted of flapping the cape and dancing around a bit. The Batusi takes its name from the Watusi, a dance from the 1960s of only nostalgic importance, which was inspired partially by Latin American themes.
In Comics
Some concepts and villains from the Batman television series made their way into comics, while others did not. The Batusi was one such concept which bridged the gap between media. It was however not often featured in Batman comics rather in Wonder Woman where she danced it more than once.
