Hes more than the big dumb brute. :(
Batman
Character » Batman appears in 23627 issues.
Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on the fears of criminals, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, he became the legendary Batman.
Why is Bane so underrated?
Because he can't beat batman in a fair fight. He's underrated but if you lose to batman once people kind of write you off. Same with ras al Ghul.
There was a long period where he was being massively over rated on the battle forums here. Every day there was another dumb thread like Bane vs Juggernaut or Bane vs Hulk. I still regret my Bane vs Doomsday thread that was supposed to be a joke.
He's never been a big dumb brute in the comics,it's the other media that gets him wrong and I firmly blame Rocksteady for it.
You mean overrated right?
J-Joy ? *eyes water and locks self in the bathroom*
You mean overrated right?
Not at all.

I agree.

So Batman and Robin never happened then?
He isn't actually a big dumb brute in the Arkham games at all. He is big and bulky sure, but he isn't dumb at all. For the brief time he appeared in Arkham Asylum he was well spoken and not dumb and in Arkham City he makes out he is destroying the Titan containers whilst he is actually stashing them. He isn't dumb.
@entropy_aegis: I really don't like the Arkham Bane. He only acts like a mindless brute in asylum, but his design is horrible. It's hard to take him seriously when he looks so big and dumb.

What's your opinion on TDKR Bane?

That and AO were hands down the best versions of Bane.

No body cares about that movie, and he's dumb no matter how you look at it.

Agreed. But he deserved a better death.
Hes more than the big dumb brute. :(
He was excommunicated by a gang of psychopaths! That's why.
he hasn't been more then a dumb brute or someone's enforcer since Knightfall/Vengeance of Bane
he originally was just a taller Batman/Slade in physical appearance. Manipulating the underworld for his own benefit.
he is underrated because of Batman and Robin. After that movie he was a brute who relied solely on venom. From the movie on once venom was pulled out he just dropped, as if venom was constantly being pumped into him instead of every few hours for a dosage to exceed his peak human form.
idk what his role should be. he is the son of King Snake. So should have some relationship with Kobra for better or worst.
he could even put his hatred of his father on them in place of his death and revive Skull. Young Justice, with a great/best version of King Kobra, shown how this could go.

Well it was the first time they portrayed Bane like that so that film is to blame with him being portrayed as dumb in any other material.
I just explained partly why he wasn't dumb in the Arkham games.
He may or may not be underrated depending on which version of Bane you accept. Knightfall Bane was pretty clever, but knight terrors. Bane was dreadfully stupid. At times he is played as a mastermind and at times as nothing more than a brute. Jane fans give all the credit to his better moments, and honestly, I tend to agree with then. Bane's dumb moments, I think, are the product of dumb writers not a dumb character. Of course, that's open for debate.
I do think Bane is a bit overrated by some Bane boosters. Was the plot to take down Bats in Knightfall clever? Sure, but the key seemed to be just wearing Bats down, and though clever, it's not genius or even a original idea. He just pulled it off well. Is Bane a good fighter? No doubt, but he almost always has to pull out the venom to take on Bats and even then, he regularly fails.
Bane is a force of no small might, but he's not the end all be all. Top three bat villains in terms of overall threat to Bruce? Definitely. Maybe higher, but some people overhype him.
Think it's just down to writers who cannot see past Bane's size, they can see all his muscles, except the one that really matters.
Cause he looks like a dominatrix.
Beata
I sincerely hope not. :)
The only version I liked him in was TDKR, he was SO freaking perfect in that one. A heavy brawler, not some huge juiced semi-hulk creature that can't even speak. In the movie he had such purpose and cause, he was really strong both physically and intellectually. He had the brains to help mastermind and carry out that entire plot. If Bane was like that ALL the time, he'd easily be in my top 3 Batman villains.
Bane is one of the greatest rogues in all of comics. That silly Batman & Robin movie ruined his image.Bane should be the most feared rogue in the Batman universe, the dude is a beast and he's intelligent as hell. And if you don't believe me, he will simply BREAK YOU!!!

@entropy_aegis defend your boy
@daredevil21134: I've lost my appetite for defending Bane,he barely had any depth in Arkham War and that was supposed to be his big story,I hope Tomasi writes him again but this time in his Batman and Robin series. His recent appearance in Assault on Arkham didn't do him any favors and a potential role in Arkham Knight is likely to go the same way,Rocksteady really messed him up. I hope they learn a lesson or two from WB Montreal and restore Bane in AK,atleast allowing others to get him right.

You didn't like him in Arkham Origins?

I did but they were bound by Rocksteady's continuity.

His portrayal in Assault on Arkham was bad.It seemed like they just forced him in .I like when he's written in a intelligent manner

Completely unnecessary, they could have used Croc or Grundy.
Bane is best when he doesn't deviate from the source material too much. I don't understand the difficulty some writers have with his characterization and abilities. i suppose it's simply easier to not do any research and assume that he's just a 'roid freak. The character is so much more than this, as was proven in Vengeance of Bane parts 1 and 2.
@amratheking: I agree 100%. He was a beast there
