I don't believe Bruce has a favorite but while they all seem him as father Dick is closest to being a friend. leaving a calmness in his character the others don't have. Jason character changed the most going from rebellious middle child to being a rebellious middle child with responsibility and seniority over the others. Tim has become more rebellious and Damian is rebellious because of his station and up bringing, while both lived the role of prodigal last child.

Dick was the first. He's been through more sh*t with him than anyone in the Batfamily...or anyone in general tbh.

Dick's certainly the one he trusts the most to succeed him should something go wrong.

At the age debate, in some issues of the pre 52 Nightwing series there is also said that that he lost his parents with 8, even is this doesn't relay works with the timeline, since it is nearly impossible that Tim was a witnesses of the death of Dicks parents.

I agree with this. Besides, in a way, Dick Grayson was kinda his 'firstborn' son, so that counts as special. :)

Even though there's so many plotholes and weirdness in new52 version of Batboys, I still like it that B trust Dick the most. Maybe it's because he sees Dick as a grown up now, despite his apparent childishness.In new 52, I see it that Bruce has the most stable relationship with Dick. He's very open to everyone as ever, even to the most difficult person in Batclan, namely Bruce(as Joker like to put it: he have a bleeding heart. no kidding). Bruce has too much history with Jason to be really comfortable. Tim is... I don't know about current timeline, but he did hold a grudge to B five years later in future's end for making him a 'soldier' (for me, the way B recruited him always feels awkward and kinda out of character--shouldn't he prevent himself to have another sidekick after what happened to Jay?), aaand... Damian's still dead.

In Pre-52, it was definitely really close between Tim and Dick.

But in the new 52 Tim more or less appllied for the Robin position (and got it by nearly getting his parents killed). irrc Jason was the only one how was "recruited" by Bruce.

Yes, he did applied (with slightly different reason and a whole different method from pre-52 this time). ^^;
Besides that, from my opinion, it's Bruce's decisions that make new-52 Tim the way he is. In pre-52, Bruce is already don't like his idea to wear Robin suit (which makes him more determined since he always said that Batman needs a Robin). In new-52, B is actively offered that to Tim (hence why I use the term 'recruited'). His falling out with Batman doesn't help, either. (in pre-52, it's his falling out with Dick that made him Red Robin. but Dick and Tim is already too close, so he can't really hate Dick.)

Since in new-52 Tim never discovered Nightwing (and Batman's) identity by himself, thus made him never bonded with Dick that well, I suppose the brotherly aspect is kinda dulled? I don't know if he's secretly mourned or anything, because there's no indication that he is that I know of. Especially after Damian's (his demon-brat-little-brother) death, the loss of another (beloved) brother should've taken toll on him. At least in pre-52 it would hit him hardest, since he and Dick was very close.

For a long time I think Dick was the son he never had... then he actually did have a son. But still, Dick is his oldest friend (excluding Alfred) and was probably the most important Robin. Also, let's face it, Jason Todd is an asshole, Tim Drake is a teenager and Damian is just a kid really, whereas Dick is a mature adult now, as well as being like a son to Bruce and one of his oldest friends. It's not that surprising that Dick is his favourite (or at least that they have more to talk about)

@batman-hush: I think it's pretty much the same for both, although it's kind of hard to say for the New 52 since we haven't actually seen New 52 Dick Grayson before he was Nightwing. But I'm pretty sure it applies to both Pre and New 52.

I honestly think it's just cause Bruce has seen Dick over come things time and time again. He sees him as a person who goes through the pain rather than harness it and I think it's something he probably wishes (in some small part) he could do. They've had their shortcomings but because Dick forgives (A LOT btw) Batman's lapses in judgement and rolls with the punches and adapts. Dick was the one he got right (mainly because of Dick's personality) and I think darkness NEEDS light, otherwise they fall too deep.

I'm pretty sure, but I could be wrong, that in Pre-New 52, Bruce's favorite was Cassandra Cain. She was like the female version of him but without the detective skills. New 52, it's either Dick or Damian.

They improved the relationship between Dick and Bruce, kept Jason the same and made Tim worst. Damien relationship is definitely maturing and getting better but he is too young to talk about certain things so he goes to Dick.

Because Dick acts like the less extreme version of Bruce

Dick is by far the most mature Robin and really the only person (other than Alfred) that Bruce can open up to. Dick doesn't admire/resent Bruce like the other Robins (he used to, but he got over it) and Bruce sees him as an equal. Bruce also admires Dick; he watched him grow up and become a better man than he could be by moving past his anger and grief (something Bruce will never be able to do)

So, IMO it isn't that Bruce likes or loves Dick more than the others, he just respects him more.
