Well, this is a bit timely for me, considering I was just recently musing about the women in Batman’s life. Deadline’s broken a story that Christopher Nolan’s preparing to meet with... well... basically every major working young actress for two major roles in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. The six named so far are…
One role is supposed to be a love interest for Batman and the other’s supposed to be a villainess, which would jibe with the early rumors about Wayne’s socialite fiancé, Julie Madison, and Gordon’s lover and partner-in-the-force, Sarah Essen showing up. Seeing as how DARK KNIGHT's finale sets the cops up as the next antagonists just as BATMAN BEGINS set up the Joker, Essen could easily be described as a new foe.
Or perhaps the part in question is actually a supervillainess, which narrows the playing field a bit as there aren’t that many gals in the rogue’s gallery. You’ve got Catwoman (a strong possibility,) Poison Ivy (a little fantastical,) Harley Quinn (a bit unlikely,) or the new Ventriloquist (if they’re really keeping up with comics.)
Anyway, as if you need a little more help deciding, how about some head-shots to illustrate...? == TEASER ==I’d almost discount Blake Lively since she’s already playing Carol Ferris in GREEN LANTERN. Although, I suppose if Ryan Reynolds and Chris Evans can play almost a half-dozen superheroes, there’s really no reason she couldn't as well. Actually, you can almost think of Portman as Reynolds' female equivalent as she sort-of become the go-to choice for these kind of roles. She's played opposite Anakin Skywalker, V and (soon) Thor, and she was heavily rumored to play Lois Lane in one the attempted SUPERMAN revivals. The same could be said about Knightly, actually.
Anyway, we know you maniacs have some strong opinions about all this, so let 'em rip!
