frank miller would have got away with this. in fact I'd bet that all kind of stuff has come out of batman over the years, thats kinda part of that whole badass thing. have a 10 foot tall alligator man hit you in the gut with a truck or break your back or whatever else, shit happens.
As far as I know, there are times when you just can't control your bodily functions. For instance, every time Batman ejects out of the bat-plane, he probably craps himself. Someone probably punched him in the lower stomach or something and induced the involuntary bladder spasm. I don't think any less of him for that.
I do think they need to stop letting Kevin Smith write mainstream characters, though.
I've tried to like Kevin Smith, but he really doesn't do anything for me. Mostly, his sense of humor gets in the way of me enjoying his stuff. I don't remember liking anything he's written for comics, and the only movie of his I thought was decent was Chasing Amy.

The editors are the main barrier between the writers and the printing press when it comes to quality storytelling and it looks like they're not doing their job if Batman pissing himself is going to print. Seriously, just because Kevin Smith is famous doesn't mean they should put his work to print and skip the revising. Come on editors, lets make sure the writers are putting out quality stories instead of letting the weed doing it for them, yes?
Ah, yes. A strong counter-argument indeed. Anyway, I wouldn't he SUCKS as a comic book writer, though he's not terribly good either. The Widening Gyre had its moments, especially at the end of #05, but... Between the delays and the ending of Volume 1 with the "big revelation" of #06... it felt lackluster. IMO, that ending substracts from BOTH characters (if you've read it you'll know who I'm talking about). Also, the idea of Batman unmasking just like that to someone he barely knows is... far-fetched, at least.
I don't have to make a counter-argument. Check the catalog. Kevin Smith is more consistently known for his good works rather than bad. The only thing about Kevin is that his books usually suffer delays due to him missing deadlines or dropping projects.
If you want to get uptight about the possibility that Batman has a bladder, then okay, do you. I rather move on, especially since it's not canon, and even if it was--I HIGHLY doubt that any other writer picking up the character would ever acknowledge it.

Kevin Smith writes Batman like a fan fic. I'm not a big Batman fan but him peeing himself is a little preposterous. I like Kevin though, just not on Batman.
I can totally buy into the idea that Batman Peed himself. I think there are a lot of Hardcore Harry's coming in here to his defense. The fact is Bruce Wayne is HUMAN. People have problems people do get spasms...or have releases when scared. This is a year 1 story and I can accept that early in his career he did some stuff that scared the piss out of him...this time literally.
What if this was a cannon modern story? I could totally picture an aging Bruce Wayne starting to have problems with his prostate. It isn't crazy to think that is it? He is just a guy...a guy with lots of money...but a guy none the less. I would like to see Batman get prostate cancer. I could see some good stories coming out of it.
I like that everyone seems to think that Batman is above such inconsequential things as biological processes. The body voids it's bowels when threatened. It doesn't have to with being a wuss, or being a coward, or being out of control. It's just biology people!
