I'd like to hear your opinions on this. On the night his parents were shot, did Bruce's sanity go out the window? It seems like most people would grieve, then move on after a death. But for some reason, Bruce feels the need to avenge them. Has all the stress and other psychos in his life made him as crazy as the villains he fights? Sound off.
Batman
Character » Batman appears in 23637 issues.
Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on the fears of criminals, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, he became the legendary Batman.
Is Batman crazy?
Depends on how you define crazy. He most certainly has severe mental problems, such as megalomania and some level of narcissistic personality disorder, not to mention the large serving of PTSD
he's guy who goes out in a bat-based-design constume at night...why whould he be crazy?
Says the guy who is obsessed with riddles.

@The Poet: I'm so glad I live 300 miles away from that place now, alot of people say there's no place like home, I say thank god for thatwell they also say "home is where the heart is". You might want to have cardiologist check it out it thats true ;)
Morrison tackled this back in Arkham Asylum...it was kind of a yes and know answer. He is really similar to the people he locks up but he's better than them...kind of the moral of the story...
In the script Grant stated that this scene from the novel explains the whole point of the story.

Bats is totally bat-s**t (pun intended) but very stable at the same time, that's part of makes him so awesome. He clings to his humanity and reason while the villains he fights willingly flush it down the toilet. He never lets his mind be anything other than a steel trap, holding himself together to fight another day in his war (read "vendetta") on crime.
All humans are a bit crazy.
If you count a super rich man that fights killers in a batsuit, is highly obsessed, believes his way of thinking is right and everyone else is wrong, brings under age teens into danger and possibly screwing their minds up, then yes he is crazy.
I only like certain versions of Batman since there are many to choose from. If I killed a Villain that was about to murder thousands, Batman would try to arrest me... That is how warped his views are in my opinion.
look, you guys forget to take into account the world he lives in. like how stuff that might seem crazy here is perfectly normal in japan, so too are their cultural differences between our universe and the dc one. in the dc universe, super-hero/villaining can be considered genuine professions, and deciding to follow that path doesn't necessarily make you crazy, even if you lack superpowers. batman's only crazy in the sense that normal people might consider skydiving crazy.
he does not just switch you are leaving out a gap that covers many years which he received traing to become batman so he did grieve it was not forever and he than devoted his live to fighting crime.
Batman is as insane as the rougues he apprehends. The only difference is that he operates on the right side of the law.No he doesn't because vigilantism is illegal, as is speeding, owning vehicles without proper registration, not to mention all of the illegally owned explosives. Just because he beats up bad guys doesn't mean he operates on the right side of the law.

If dressing up like a bat and fighting crime makes someone insane then 99% of superheroes are insane.
@thegodamnbatman: they actually kinda are. But Batman among them definately has psychological problems. Its just that he uses them in sort of a positive way. Nobody ever sayd psychosis could only be detrimental. Exceptions etc
