    Batman

Character » Batman appears in 23537 issues.

I'm not sure what to read at this point (after Batman R.I.P)

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did some looking around and couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I have not read anything after Batman R.I.P and before the New 52. I have The Black Mirror (haven't read it yet), but wasn't sure if I needed to read Batman and Robin, or Battle for the Cowl, or Batman Inc first.

After I read R.I.P, I went straight to The Black Mirror & then Batman & Robin. I haven't read Battle for the Cowl or Batman Inc yet because I do not own them.

    1. Final Crisis
    2. Batman: Battle for the Cowl
    3. Batman and Robin: Batman Reborn
    4. Batman and Robin: Batman vs. Robin
    5. Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne / Batman and Robin: Batman and Robin Must Die (Both pretty much read at the same time)
    6. Batman Inc. / Batman: The Black Mirror (Either one can be read before the other)

@FatihBATMAN: It has batman in the way I love him: a human in a world full of powerful creatures.

We see him take on countless inventive villains all the way from argentina to japan and more.

    Also, the art is great.

    6. Batman Inc. / Batman: The Black Mirror (Either one can be read before the other)

^ This. It's in completely chronological order.

I would also recommend squeezing Batman: Time and the Batman in after Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne. It's a pretty short trade and it details the events of Batman's "death" and return in a more character focused way with extra expository detail. It also shows the idea of the Batman in the future (like far, far, far in the future.) It also collects the issue where Damian (as Batman) saves Terry McGinnis and eventually becomes his mentor and helps him to become Batman Beyond. It's written by Grant Morrison, the same guy that wrote everything listed above except for Battle of the Cowl (Tony S. Daniel) and Black Mirror (Scott Snyder.)

Also, in between 5. and 6. I'd recommend Paul Dini's Streets of Gotham run. It's collected in these 3 trades:

    1. Batman: Streets of Gotham - Hush Money
    2. Batman: Streets of Gotham - Leviathan
    3. Batman: Streets of Gotham - House of Hush

His run is really good but it serves more as a sequel to Paul Dini's previous story "Heart of Hush" which takes place before Batman: RIP and Final Crisis. Therefore, you should probably check that out before diving into Streets of Gotham.

Actually, I'm a little confused. After batman/catwoman (batman 685) do I read Battle for the Cowl and then Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader, or is it the other way around? Then there's

    Batman and Robin (1-12)

and Batman and Robin Must Die (13-16)

then I read Return of Bruce Wayne

    then Batman: The Return

or do I read Batman: The Return right after Batman and Robin Must Die?

    then Time and the Batman

then Dark Knight, White Knight (batman and robin 17-25)?

    and then Batman Inc?

@UncleEmu: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader isn't that important of a story, but you read it before Battle for the Cowl.

Then, the most chronological order to read would be:

    • Batman and Robin (1-12)
    • Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne (1-4)
    • Batman and Robin (13-14)
    • Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne (5-6)
    • Batman and Robin (15-16)
    • Batman: The Return

Then after Batman: The Return, it doesn't really matter which order you read Batman Inc. vol. 1 and Dark Knight White Knight in, although I'd suggest saving Batman Inc. for last.

Thank you. I just have 2 more questions - where does batman 685 belong as far this goes, and where does Time and the Batman go (batman 700-703)?

@UncleEmu: 685 is right before Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?. Time and the Batman is kind of tricky, issue 700 would likely place anytime among the first 14 issues of Batman and Robin. Then 701-702 take place between RIP and Final Crisis, even though it was released much later than these two stories. I can't remember where 703 goes.

So I'm pretty much caught up, but then I heard about Bruce Wayne: The Road Home. Does all of that just go right before The Return?
