    From Forbes:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just broke a record for the biggest Friday-to-Friday drop for a major comic book movie. We can talk all we want about how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is better appreciated by the fans or its passionate online fan base than by the critics. But if this second Friday (and likely second weekend) figure is any indication, the majority of the general populace no longer cares. It’s neither a passionate embrace nor vitriolic hatred, but merely indifference. Yes, we’re still talking about a $15.35 million second-Friday and a $50m+ second weekend, but in terms of legs, this film seemingly doesn’t have any.

    From Box Office Mojo:

Saturday AM Update:Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice takes a massive tumble compared to its opening day last weekend with an estimated $15.35 million Friday. That's an 81% drop from its opening day last Friday, which did include $27.7 million from Thursday previews, but even excluding those numbers you're looking at a 71.5% drop. Rival studios peg the film's second weekend dropping as much as 70%, resulting in a three day weekend around $50 million.

    Well damn...thoughts?

Surprised, but nothing ultra-shocking. It can still make a billion, and world-wide box office is far more important.

Too early. It could still bounce back on Saturday and Sunday. AoU only made $21m on its second Friday but still made $77m overall on its second weekend.

Yeah, I see this making AoU, IM3, or Deathly Hallows Part 2 money World-Wide. Not the ultra-mega tent-pole that WB was hoping for, but still has more than enough money to make them a profit.

Plus...Easter was on Sunday and kids started going back to school. Not saying the drop-off isn't a big one even give those circumstances, but I think those factors added a bit to it.

Can you explain how this movie can still have similar numbers to the movies you mentioned?

On Friday (April 1) the film earned $2.57 million (RMB16.7 million) and slipped from first place to fourth in the Chinese box office rankings. That score represents a drop of 85% compared with the previous Friday (March 25,) when it opened in China with $18.4 million as part of a globally coordinated day-and-date release. link

Internationally, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice added $19.2 million on Friday for an overseas total of $363.4 million and a worldwide total of $587.8 million so far. link

All movies in China do horribly their second week. Most Hollywood films in China close after one week in theaters due to being replaced by Chinese made films. TFA saw a 70% drop in Chinese market the next week, and fell flat of expectations in that market (I'm not saying this will make $2 billion, but I'm using that as an example). Secondly, it was only Friday. We still have two more days to go, and with Fandango ticket sales being 30% higher than other Blockbusters, it still has a lot going for it. Dark Knight Rises made a similar drop and still crossed $1.1 billion. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 dropped 84%. This movies drop off is worse than expected, but not bad.

Moreover, the international numbers are doing great. It's still going strong overseas and is expected to pass at least $700 million worldwide over the weekend.

As long as a decent amount of Americans go see the film see the film, and it does well internationally, it will be find.

Your Chinese market claim has some validity but we are still talking about 85%, and TFA did not do so well in the Chinese market, the Dark Knight Rises and the Harry Potter comparisons don't have significant weight because Batman last solo movie ($1,084B not + $1.1B) keeps beating B v S in the daily domestic Box Office and B v S opened with superior numbers, and the Harry Potter franchise last movie faced Captain America: The First Avenger debut in its second weekend, B v S still has no competition, most of you guys are mislead by B v S worldwide release at the same time in all the markets and in the Easter season, this scenario boosts the daily numbers for a week, but is still drooping more than Furious 7 (also Easter release) in the domestic numbers and never was a challenge for the mentioned movie in the International markets! Sincerely that i don't see how B v S can make $1.2B Worldwide like Iron Man 3 that from the movies you mentioned is who made less money in the end of its run...

The marketing for this movie was abysmal compared to most Marvel films, as far as I can tell. Many people didn't even know it was coming out when I asked them about it.

I really feel sorry about that - as much I like MCU, I was also looking for the progression of DCCU. The dark setting should make pretty interesting storyline. Hopefully the setback doesn't dampen their enthusiasm for more movies - and more $$$

@asgaard: I still believe that the movie can do business this weekend. Will it get over $70 million? No. But with repeat ticket sales higher than normal and no real competition this weekend, it can still see $60 million, which would be an overall drop of 64%. Lets note that AoU dropped 75% the following Friday, but still made 40.6% of its original weekend gross. PLUS, a lot of schools are going on Spring Break these coming weeks, so that will help.

At the end of the day when we examine movies that had similar starts, we are still looking at $1-$1.3 billion dollars.

Isn't too surprising considering the media collectively assassinated any and all hype for the movie going into and after the opening weekend.

People liked the Reeve version at the time.

    Now, not so much.

However, I really, REALLY want a MoS 2, so I hope you're wrong.

Was it really that much of a surprise. After the initial word got out that it was bad and the people that were hoping it wasn't bad went and seen it. Its kinda obvious it stayed that low in sales. Hopefully DC will rethink the EVERYTHING needs to be DARK mentality.

    @petey_is_spidey:

I predicted around $1.050B for final worldwide numbers before know any of this weekend data and i still think the movie can reach that number, but $150M is a lot of money (even big blockbusters wise) that i don't see from where could come, remember that in the current era competition has a crucial role in the movies performance at the box office and B v S will not have free pass till the end of its run in movie theaters!

Thats seems to be DC answer for everything though. Batman Dark it did well. Lets make Superman Dark. That didn't do so well so lets do it again and make Batman vs Superman Dark.

Yes there is more things wrong then just being Dark but you get the idea.

That's not DC's answer though, TDK trilogy was dark cause it was Batman, hell, "Dark" is in the title. Snyder decided to take MOS to a more serious world (I still argue that MOS was NOT dark however) and did the same with this movie. And while a little levity would have help, this movie fails because of horrible editing and pacing and lack of a cohesive plot. Not cause of the tone.
