After Harvey Dent's face is reconstructed by the brilliant plastic surgeon Dr. Marilyn Crane, he is eventually declared cured and allowed to reenter Gotham society. He starts at a small law firm in Gotham and enters into a relationship with Marilyn.
One day, Marilyn's twin sister Madeliune appears, whom Marilyn had kept a secret because she was afraid she might rekindle Two-Face's obsession with duality. The two sisters never got along, and Marilyn tells Harvey that her sister even tried to murder her on her eleventh birthday.
The more aggressive Madeline seduces Harvey, and they start an affair while Marilyn is blissfully unaware and prepares for her wedding to Harvey. He finally breaks off the affair, but Madeline says that Marilyn does not love the real Harvey the way she herself does, and that she would see her sister in hell before having her take Harvey from her.
Later, Harvey finds Marilyn murdered in her apartment, with "Now it is just the two of us" written in blood on the wall. Harvey wants vengeance, but Harvey Dent is not a killer. He looks at the fire burning in the fireplace, realizing he knows someone who is.
Madeline finds Two-Face on a pier. She is not horrified by his face, she welcomes it. Two-Face kisses her while he shoots her, holding her while she dies in his arms. He then waits for Batman to take him back where he belongs, with the rest of the crazy people.
