Very Good Long Halloween :D 2

The Long Halloween is one of the most acclaimed and respected book related to Batman.  It is one of Jeph Loeb's greatest works and it is a strong testament that comics can have more depth then many of the shallow comics out today.   The Harvey Dent/Two-Face Origin is found in the Long Halloween The Long Halloween is 13 issues long and cycles from one Halloween to the next.  The calendar events theme works lovely in this book.  Each month foreshadowing what the issue will be about.  Jeph Loeb ...

    A groundbreaking Halloween. 1

Please read this before reading my review!: Okay so normally I write reviews on single issue comic books and what not. This is my first review of a graphic novel and it is not going to be like my normal reviews. No spoiling, no spitting back the pages, and no copied thoughts. Thank you and enjoy!  My thoughts When I bought this book I was very excited to read it. Jeph Loeb is a fantastic writer and the way he wrote each and every page in this book was amazing. The thought of Batman and Halloween...

And I thought Batman: Hush was brilliant! 1

Okay, okay, "Batman: Hush" IS brilliant. I love it and I don't mean to get anyone angry but man... The Long Halloween is one of the best Batman books I've ever read. In my view, this is second only to "The Killing Joke." Yes, it's that good. The Long Halloween is as gritty a noir tale as any, Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale are a perfect duo. Set early in the Batman universe, someone who is referred to as "Holiday" is killing off mobsters on, you guessed it, holidays. Since this is a trade paper-back, ea...

    The Long Halloween 0

The Story:  A serial killer in Gotham is dubbed "Holiday" due to the coinciding murders committed on different holidays each month for a year.  My Thoughts:The acclaimed team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale deliver a tale in the early years of Batman's career. This comic is considered to be one of the greatest Batman stories of all time. Jeph Loeb's genius shines as he so eloquently unravels a thrilling crime mystery set over thirteen months. The anticipation and excitement is felt while reading this ...

Twists and turns for the whole family 0

This has become quite the classic and definitive Batman tale and for good reason. This brilliantly crafted story had me hooked, I'd nothing but good things so I finally checked it out and I regret not reading it earlier....and if you haven't you need to immediately. This is more than a Batman story, it is a crime drama and a murder mystery. What is so great about "the Long Halloween" is it focuses on the people first and then Batman (if that makes sense). Tim Sales artwork captures the dark noir...

    Incredible 0

I was in the hospital when i got this book. I was having surgery and my brother comes in and says"stop what your doing and read this its...wow". He told me as soon as he started reading he couldn't stop and niether could I. The way the story is written the compelling characters, the transformation of harvey dent, the great artwork. This book deserves a lot of praise. The holiday killer is one of the aspects of the story that i also like too. Its a unknown character so it keeps you guessing until...

    Happy Holidays 0

This was a remarkable story, more so by the dearth of words. The artwork does more storytelling than the dialogue, at times, but this is all to the better for the impact and impressiveness of the story. Not all writers would be willing to let the visual aspect of the comic do the narrative work, but Loeb must be quite secure with himself and his skill to allow Tim Sale steal the show. Though the story is primarily about the creation of Two-Face, it's hard to tell until reading the whole thing an...

The origin tale of Two-Face! 0

The Origins of Harvey Dent has begun!Introduction:Now, I have been reading many Batman comics whose stories dealt with Batman defeating one of his greatest foes, the Joker. But, I had always wanted to read some “Batman” stories that dealt with another one of Batman’s greatest foes, Two-Face! I got interested in Two-Face’s story when I saw one of the episodes on “Batman: The Animated Series” that dealt with the origin tale of Two-Face and I was amazed at how well that episode portrayed the relati...

    Good Old-Fashioned Noire 0

Note: This is a review of the entire seriesThere are a lot of ways to get Batman wrong. There are a lot of ways to get Batman right.Batman can be gritty and grim. Batman can be campy and fun. Batman can be serious and realistic. Batman can be omnipotent and fantastical. It all comes down to a writer following three simple rules: Respect the character, add your own twist, be coherent. Jeph Loeb's The Long Halloween does all three and it gets Batman right. This is Batman in full-on noire mode. This...

Proof I still love comics 10

I was a huge fan of Jeph Loeb's Batman: Hush, so I was interested in reading some of his other Batman stories. I always heard a lot of praise given to The Long Halloween, so I decided to give that a try. And I'm happy to say that it lives up to the praise. The story takes place during the early days of Batman's career. The plot focuses on a killer named "Holiday", who (surprisingly enough) kills people on holidays. Batman, along with Harvey Dent and James Gordon, races to try and discover who...

    Batman: The Long Halloween 0

I've got to say, I was pretty exited when I found the tpb(trade paperback) in a Coles back when, the reviews were almost all super positive, and not many people seemed to have much as far as any cons. And I must say, it's an impressive, solid read. Perhaps a tad overrated, but nonetheless, very solid. The story focuses on A relatively young Batman(seeing as it takes place after Year one), along with police commissioner James Gordon, and District Attorney Harvey Dent, attempting to uncover the ide...
