Batman faces the Penguin in the search for his childhood friend Dawn Golden…but what The Dark Knight finds sends him on a far darker and more desperate path. Now he's forced to reach out to Etrigan, the Demon for help – a favor that may come at too high a price!

As Penguin and his thugs surround him, Batman demands Dawn's location. Penguin orders his thugs to shoot Batman, but Batman hides under a table to avoid the gunshots. He then uses a wire to trap the thugs, but Penguin runs away. Batman tries to catch him.

Meanwhile, Comissioner Gordon and the police try to track down Killer Croc after his recent escape from a police truck. Suddenly, he is informed that Mayor Hady just put Forbes in charge of the Dawn Golden investigation.

Batman catches up to Penguin and tries to get him to talk. When the Penguin refuses, Batman breaks his limbs. Also, he begins acting more and more angrily. Then, Killer Croc appears and knocks Batman out. He then helps the Penguin. He also says that Forbes is working for Penguin.

Outside, the person who hacked into the Batmobile's security systems is revealed to be a woman. The woman hears Killer Croc and Penguin talking, so she enters the Batmobile. She tries to drive it, but the Batmobile drives away from the place, just as Penguin and Killer Croc carry Batman outside the club.

In the Narrows, the thugs who just saw Lars Beck's corpse begin to believe that someone is after them. They agree to protect each other, but suddenly, Ragman appears behind them.

In Jason Blood's apartment, Jason suddenly transforms into Etrigan.

In an abandoned building, Batman awakens and finds himself tied to a chair strapped with explosives. He also realizes that Dawn Golden's necklace has been taken from him. Batman believes that the necklace must have been the reason of why he acted so aggresively towards the Penguin. Suddenly, Killer Croc appears and punches him in the face. He makes Batman watch a screen with a message from the Penguin. Transimitting from another location, the Penguin tells Batman that the explosives he is tied to are set to his heart rate.

Issue #2 is Finally Here! 0

Batman: The Dark Knight returns. Will the delay between issues affect how this one reads?  The Good Who would expect to see the Penguin as such a fierce looking character? With his henchmen at his side, he doesn't play games when it comes to dealing with the Dark Knight. Normally he can be a little more cooperative, trying to push his legitimate businessman persona but maybe it's Batman's reaction that puts him on edge. Speaking of Batman, wait to see what he does to try to get answers from Peng...

Superb! 0

Cover:  Really digging the cover in this one, for some reason.  It certainly illustrates the main point of the series.  I'm not fond of Batman's face, but the Penguin backdrop is awesome.   The Good:  There is a lot of good stuff here, I could write a long, long review, but I'll keep it short.  I enjoyed the pacing, the dialogue, the art altogether with great color variety; I even like how Bruce reacts to the whole situation with Golden.   I enjoy the way Finch depicts three classic members of B...

A Dark Knight Before the Dawn 0

David Finch's The Dark Knight continues Bruce Wayne's search for a missing childhood friend, Dawn Golden. After butting heads with a venom addicted Killer Croc, Batman is confronted by Gotham's underground mob boss Penguin. As per usual, Penguin's goons are armed to the teeth, and Bruce takes them out in a very cool and interesting way.    Batman's interrogation is cut short by Croc, who is in cahoots with Penguin.   Que the sub plot, including Jason Blood's introduction into our story, and ...
