    The Joker's Daughter1 Review

This comic starts off with a teenage girl in the Gotham Underworld finding the Joker's face, which apparently fell off when he fell to his death in his last fight with Batman. She talks about how she feels close to Joker, but not close enough. She puts on the mask, but also eats part of it so her "father" is a part of her. This comic, unlike the first one made during villains month, did not show her taking over the underworld. We do see this girl, however, set up a fake school bus with fake school children in it only to set it on fire for batman's attention. She says she does this do batman will go after Joker, and she can follow him to find her "father." Batman, however, somehow already knows this girl is following him. He leads her to the site of Joker's death and explains that the mask has made her sick, the way Joker's body made the waterfall sick. Here is when we see JD begin to fight Batman, who lures her into the custody of the cops. This does not deter her, however. She gets one of her handcuffs loose and escapes, going to Arkham, where her "father was king." We first see three orderlies talking and joking in the asylum, and they then come upon JD. In an argument over the Joker, the teen stabbed one of them and fled to another Wong of the hospital. Here, she encounters a woman who can reach into minds and find a life story, and that's where we see 3 stories: 1) A brunette 15-year-old who lives by herself, and cuts when things get too stressful. 2) A blonde 16-year-old molested by a family friend who then killed her parents. 3) A bulimic 17-year-old who was bullied and had no friends. These are the stories JD tells about herself, but the spirit determines that none of them are real. When confronted with this, JD runs out of the hospital and rests on the bridge where we, as Batman fans, first met Joker. She talks then about how the mushrooms she fell into during her fight with batman made her sick, how they made her kill. The comic then cuts to her with the Dollmaker, making him sew on her "father's" face. He does so, and then gives her an injection of the Joker's blood that he had from the man's operation. We then fade in on JD sleeping, surrounded by candles and talking about how she ran away because she was ordinary and didn't want to be. As she awakes, a cat strolls up with a purple paper attatched. In green pencil, the words "hello, beautiful" was written. The comic zoomed out with JD saying that her "father" was alive. Over all, the comic had a good idea but it as very undescriptive and left on a cliffhanger. It's not like this is something that will be solved next week, this was a one-comic-hit. It was a good idea, but with a poor excecution.

Marguerite Bennett has proven to be a very talented new writer, having done a terrific job of both the Batgirl Zero Year tie-in and Batman Annual #2. Bennett's storytelling was probably the best part of this issue, with the monologue from Joker's Daughter adding a lot of depth to the story. Bennett also showed how unlike fellow Joker worshiper Harley Quinn, this girl is much more disturbed, having a very mixed up sense of purpose. Added to this the brilliant pacing and intense character interact...

Batman: Joker’s Daughter #1 Review –“Who is your Daddy, and What Does He Do?” 0

Intro At the time of villains’ month I was very intrigued by the character’s look and really wanted to learn more about her and see if this version is any different than the others. So after reading her villain’s month and a couple of Catwoman’s issues my interest in her fell completely off. She had a very interesting origin of dealing with anorexia and not accepting her looks. But the underground tunnel with her underwater cat (laughs) wasn’t good enough for me. Sh...
