Part Two: The Four Families of Gotham last edited by Superkitty on 04/30/23 09:38PM View full history

Murder, mayhem and the building of an empire! Issue #2 throttles up the action as Batman tries to find the source of the attacks before the killer can strike again. But with the reveal of the fourth family of Gotham City and an old case from the early days of the city, is Batman playing right into the villain's hands?

Batman Gates of Gotham begins with Journey entries from an Nicholas Anders. He talks about how Gotham began, and how in 1840 Judge Solomon Wayne commission Cyrus Pinkney to construct buildings in Gotham. Later in 1860, Nicholas Anders moves to Gotham with his father and stepbrother. Nicholas Anders would talk about how him and his brother, Bradley would go to the tall buildings hoping to go to the clouds. They dreamed skyscrapers that would pierced the sky. They would become so obsessed with this dream that they become draftsmen for Architecture. Nicholas was an "idea" man while Bradley was the technician.

One day in 1871, a man named Alan Wayne came to the two brothers in search to expand his family business. Nicholas found this to be beneficial since this was what they wanted. Alan Wayne shared his dream, which was to find a way to take Gotham to the future. The first project they worked on was The New Trigate bridge-a new suspension bridge. During construction, Bradley and the unknown character approached Alan Wayne with other drawings for "their" Gotham. Then Alan Wayne brings the two brothers to a meeting with other influential families of Gotham, Theodore Cobblepot and Edward Elliot.

In Present day, Commissioner Gordon, Red Robin are investigating Tommy Elliot's disappearance. They go through the footage and see Tommy is kidnapped by a man in a steam punk outfit. They all decide to evacuate the Wayne and Cobblepot owned buildings. Then Tommy is with his steampunk kidnapper, and he says he respects what the man is doing. Then he makes a request that this man not attack the Waynes because if he does, Tommy will kill them. Later Damian and Cassandra Cain are on patrol. While they protect the Cobblepot building, Dick is searching the Elliot mansion. Dick thinks about how he thinks he knows Gotham but he realizes he knows so little. All of sudden Bombs are found in the Iceberg Lounge and Wayne Tower. In the Iceberg Lounge, Damian and Cassandra Cain try to dismantle the bomb. At Wayne Tower Batman finds the Bomb tied to Tommy Elliot. Since both bombs had accelerated dead man's switches Batman had to save Tommy Elliot over saving Wayne Tower. Cassandra had to pull out Damian because he was too stubborn to leave. Tommy laughs at dick telling him how can he hope to protect Gotham's future when you're so naive of its past. Then he reveals the Gates aren't what but who.

Another fascinating issue about Gotham City 0

Synopsis: More of Gotham City's history is revealed. What's Good? I can say that without the history background of Gotham City in the beginning of this issue, this story would be just as great. However, thanks to it, we get a sense that Gotham City was supposed to be the ideal place due to its promise of a, "City of the Clouds".  As I wrote in the previous issue, There are so many secrets rarely touched on about Gotham City that makes this mini-series so great to rediscover them. Seeing Gotham ...

The batfamily must scramble to stop the mysterious individual(s?) behind the bombings in Gotham.   The Good McCarthy's creating some excellent covers for this series.   McCarthy's pencils and Major's colors mesh beautifully together to deliver a lush, animated feel to this story. The look of this book really is something fresh, unique, and yet it's oddly familiar and nostalgic. Anybody who was a fan of Batman TAS or Batman Beyond will instantly fall in love with the art on this book. The faded, ...
