City of Whispers
Hush has revealed himself in wanting to take Gotham away from Batman, however is he really the man behind all of this? Batman sure thinks he is!
Gotham on fire; Hush holding Batman's cowl in his hand and a gun in another; this cover captures perfectly what this issue's story was about, which was Hush taking Gotham away from Batman and causing complete chaos. Jason Fabok and Brad Anderson's combined effort on this cover made this one of the many issues that will stand out in your mind when thinking back on this series. From the commanding pose of Hush to the burning Gotham City skyline, the two artist play well to their strengths!
In terms of story, this was really impressive! From the Bat-family returning from being overseas and catching up on all that has happened in Gotham to Hush's plans continuing to be revealed, this issue is absolutely worth buying. The writers utilized the reader's want for more Hush to outweigh, or overlook, some of the parts of this story that dragged on for a bit too long and interfered with the overall larger story. (i.e. Harper Row's training; Hush's exposition as to why he's destroying Gotham when we already know the why.) Anyway, though this issue had problems, the story revolving around Hush and ultimately how Gotham goes under martial law definitely outweighs the problems that this issue faced.
The artwork by R.M. Guera with colors by Giulia Brusco was good. It takes some getting used to, and some of the characters look cartoony in some close-up panels, but overall you'll be used to it by the end of the issue.
In conclusion, this is an Eternal issue worth reading, cause things are starting to pick up to a nice pace! 4 out of 5.
