One of the more 'human' Batman stories
First off, who doesn't like a good superhero origin story? There interesting to read, have a solid beginning/middle/end (boy lands on planet, boy grows up and learns he has powers, boy becomes superhero) and most of all, most superhero origins are iconic to the comics mythos. And who could forger one of the most iconic origins in comics ever, the origin of the Dark Knight. It has been retold, flashbacked and even drastically altered in many comics, games and movies all of which have little to do with eachother...or do they. The main concept of Batman is the idea of him being a normal human being, a fact which has been part of his character for years. But is that all it is? Just a really amazing fact? The fact that Batman is human, with human skin and human body parts. Example: Superman is an alien with superhuman powers, Green Lantern is a human with alien powers, batman is...just human. The fact that Batman has a human body is something that has a lot of story potential, but only one man has seen that potential.
Geoff Johns.
In this book he tells a story of a more human Batman. A Batman who wears a costume that looks like it was made from some tough and realistic cloth, not some hyper technical Kevlar outfit made by WayneTech. A Batman who yes, does look and act like a complete badass, but at the same time is one who does it for a reason, not because it was born into him. A Batman who is, insanely rational or rationally insane. This Batman is one who's story is sad, well...sadder then the original origin. Not does his parents just die, but their death forces bruce into a state of self denial, which leads him to put on a cowl and fight, no matter what Alfred or anyone says.
Then there's the artwork, which perfectly compliments the realistic story. Guy Frank did a phenomenal job at bringing Geoff's script to life, down to all the small detains. Guy draws a gotham like no other, one thats realistic, where every panel, environment and background character has a sense of importance to the story.
With Geoff on script and Guy on art, nothing bad can come out of Batman Earth One, the human depiction of the bat.
