The Book that inspired the Game 20 years later.
DC released a game that is a modern version of this grissy Batman Tale. The basic plot, Joker now runs Arkham Asylum. Invites Batman to have some fun in the fun house. Batman comes and saves the day. Those are where the book and game meet in plot points. The game written by Paul Dini is a fun an great way to expose yourself to the Batman's famed Rogue Gallery. This book may just be Grant Morrison's first book where he came to the level of writing he is famed for. This story really messes with you.
It is a rare luxury that only Neil Gaiman has had more then once, when Dave McKean (Sandman Cover artist), does your interiors. Grant Morrison does not waste this opportunity. Dave MacKean's painted work are beautiful as horrific. The play of shadows haunts the pages in way only few can do. Famed as a cover artist, other interior works have been Black Orchid, Signal to noise, violent cases, Mr. Punch, Death Talks about life and their kids books Coraline, The day I swapped by dad for a gold fish and wolves in the walls with Neil Gaiman.
Grant Morrison has developed a reputation as the guy you have to read between the lines in his work. Arkham Asylum is a great example. There is relious allusions hidden in a fight scene and the play on insanity with Two-Face's new view on life.
This is a must have book. It is a Vertigo Level Grant Morrison book, which means it belongs besides Animal Man, Doom Patrol, Kid Eternity, The Invisibles and We3
Buy this book if you haven't. Arts great, story is top-notch! It is a must Batman story.
