Plus
Mr. Freeze made great sense as an added villain to the Night of the Owls story arc as he'd be someone the readers would least expect. Snyder's writing genius is displayed in this issue as he was able to concoct a story of how Victor eventually got involved with the Court of Owls. The story was simple but it was very believable. Dialogue was not neglected at all despite the action this issue contained. Mr. Freeze's lines properly reflected his personality and the dialogue between Batman and Freeze during their brawl was terrific because it didn't only mirror how well the two contenders understood each other, but it also showed how well Snyder knows the characters.
The art for this issue was wonderful. As an issue that revolved around Mr. Freeze exacting his revenge, the emotions on the characters faces were clear and reflected their respective emotions. Brilliant detail on each panel, a neat layout plus hard hitting action marks Snyder's success in creating a great issue. Finally, the final pages contain some shock value which might not be that high, but still creates an "Oh!" moment for the readers.
Minus
With marvelous art, plot, dialogue, action and a little shock value, what else can you ask for?
Final Score
The Night of the Owls are rocking not just Batman and related titles but also the DC Universe. Scott Snyder continues to amaze despite having to work with a completely different art team. Being one of the best annual issues released lately, add this on your pull list and don't mess up. 5/5 stars.
