Tony Daniel: The Return
The Good: THE ART. Good god the art. They could remove all the dialogue and I'd still pay 2.99 for this because Tony Daniel's art is AMAZING. And I think his inking actually improves it.
I know people are giving her shit but I like the idea of Catgirl. She has this twisted Robin like quality to her, but her upbringing and personality make it fresh. I've been waiting for her return since she donned her costume in #697.
Seeing The Reaper again was a pleasant surprise.
There's a whole lot of interesting little threads setting up the plot that come together neatly by the end of this issue.
Tony Daniel has an excellent grasp of how all these characters interact. The story may be a bit confusing, but the characterizations are fantastic.
The Bad: The story is a bit confusing. He throws a lot of things in here and it's not the easiest thing to follow.
The Sensei looks a bit silly, especially if he ends up supposing to be THE Sensei, the father of Ra's Al Ghul.
Unlike in Azrael #14, the Batman Incorporated Tie-in here feels obligatory and a bit forced. Bruce shows up to tell Dick to reign in Catgirl, to which Dick replies, DUH. What do you think I'm trying to do? It seemed a bit awkward and unnecessary.
In Conclusion: 4/5
Tony Daniel is back as writer and artist. Tony Daniel may not be the best writer out there, but I for one really enjoy his writing. And his art looks absolutely phenominal here. I'm really looking forward to seeing more TD written and illustrated Batman stories in the future. His stories are interesting and they have this odd sort of unique quality to them that I can't put my finger on.
