Batman - Prelude To "The Main Event"

    Gateway me a giant Taco.
The prelude is unleashed, and begins the journey back for Bruce Wayne. With Bruce Wayne (not) here yet, Return of Bruce Wayne by Grant Morrison, has only two issues left. With the missing pages of R.I.P. and Final Crisis (also by Grant Morrison), he is currently focusing on Road Home, Return Of Bruce Wayne, and Batman INC. Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth all star in this amazing issue of the prelude that will start everything! Written by Fabian Nicieza and drawn by Cliff Richards. Cover by Tony Daniel.

    Good

This is the prelude of Road Home (for Bruce Wayne), he's not in this issue, but, the setup for Bruce Wayne was written great by Fabian. The relationship between the bat-family and Viki Vale is thinning, and Dick and Damian (as brothers and partners) is increasing even more. I continue to enjoy the "true-colors" of Damian Wayne, Mr. Tuff guy was so angry in his beginning days as robin and also living with his father. However now, he is respecting Dick and is trusting him more, to tell him what he feels like on the inside. So I personally enjoyed this. Gateway Genius' story was actually two. So in this issue it had a quick flash back with Dick as Robin, and also with (gateway genius 1's) daughter. So the story in the end worked out great. Fabian and Cliff did a good job (working together) as a team on this issue.

    Bad

I wish the interior artwork was better. However, no one is perfect so, if people like Cliff's artwork (I'm not saying I hate it, I'm just not that fond of it) then pick up this issue. Maybe it was just the colors that through me off of this issue, and I gave it a 3.5.

    Batman #703's Verdict

I'm not going to spoil the issue's ending, so pick it up! This issue is easy to understand and it has reference from other stories, for people who haven't read Batman's stories in awhile. The artwork is okay, could be better, Tim, Dick, Damian (and others) are all getting ready for Bruce Wayne to return to being Batman. Viki is coming closer to the truth, and I think it's time for her to die, or just join the side of justice, since she is on the opposite side of justice. Best of all! When Bruce returns, we get two batmen. So in the gateway end, Dick, Damian, Tim and Gateway Genius make this a 3.5/5.

The Good: Character development for Damien. He was at an all time high in bratty spunkiness, and he had it all come crashing down on his head. It was pretty heartwarming. Vicky Vale is as tenacious as a fucking crocodile. THe fact that she managed to turn the tables back on the Bat Family when they turned the tables on her was a brilliant ending. The identity of the Getaway Genius. The backstory of the original Getaway Genius was really nice. Damien made some wild crazy assumptions in the beginn...

      It's The Final Countdown 0

Here we have a nice set up to the Return of Bruce Wayne. Vicki Vale is desperately trying to get to the bottom of things while Dick, Damian, and Tim try to stop an old enemy.  The Good I have hated Damian since day 1, but this issue is starting to help me come around. Don't get me wrong he's still cocky and annoying (although a great line when referring to Bruce's old enemies - "back in the day many of your adversaries were complete imbeciles"), but there are some moments where we finally start ...
