The New Opus of The Dark Knight 0

Last year, Scott Snyder undertook an epic that gave Detective Comics its finest storyline with The Black Mirror, in which he put former Batman Dick Grayson face the worst Gotham City has to offer. As the issues progressed, it became evident that his writing was tailor-made for Batman stories, as he concluded The Black Mirror and Gates of Gotham, with co-writer Kyle Higgins. Now, with DC Comics entering Week 3 of The New 52, Batman sees itself being wr...

    Batman Owns Gotham 0

Scott Synder had an amazing run on Detective Comics before relaunch and now does he take his amazing view of Batman into this new series? I would YES!   THE GOOD: The art is really good. It makes the story seem much darker and I think that is essential to Gotham and the Batman Universe. I really liked the beginning because it really keep you wondering, What's going on? I think seeing Batman have a whole bunch of new tech is also very enjoyable. One of my favorite parts of this whole comic is tha...

    Gotham Is Professor Pyg. 0

Joined by Greg Capullo, Scott Snyder gets the writing assignment that fans demanded and relaunches Batman. Better yet, he lives up to expectations as well, kicking off a new mystery than involves not only Batman but Bruce Wayne. It is a fantastic issue that really shows off Batman's world, though it reads more like the start of a new run than a part of the New 52's relaunches.DC's decision to basically leave Green Lantern and Batman alone results in a diminished excitement factor for those speci...

This is better then Tec #1 Vol. 2 0

From the two "Batman" books of the 52, Batman beats out Detective Comics in my opinion.    Scott Snyder does a better job establishing the Bat family, from the Wards to the Rogue Gallery it seems like everyone was covered in this issue.  This issue makes a great "jump in" spot for those who are using the 52 for accessibility.  This comic also keeps you guessing what will happen next. Scott Snyder has seemed to become one of the major architects for Batman at DC Comics.  This series establishes t...

    Gotham Is...? 0

Bruce returns to Gotham refreshed and with a new sense of triumph and confidence. But if there's one thing he's should've learned about his by now is that it loves nothing more than raising you up just to tear you down at your most settled. The GoodWhen I saw Capullo's pencils in previews I was very disappointed, but having read this issue it absolutely works and perfectly fits the tone of the narrative. Glapion's colors really make everything pop of the pages and feel vibrant. These two have wor...

Incredible! This is comic book storytelling at it's best! 0

It didn't take much to pump me up for Batman #1. But the news of Scott Snyder moving to Batman from Detective Comics only heightened my excitement for the book. Snyder has said he has a clear vision for Batman and especially Gotham City and that clearly takes form in this incredible first issue.  One of my favorite things about a Scott Snyder book is that I always feel I've gotten my money's worth. At a time where some people gripe about comics being too wordy, I appreciate an issue that takes ...

Snyder Creates the Perfect DC #1 3

I think Snyder has created the perfect DC #1 for an established character. Anyone who cares enough about Batman to want to read a monthly serial knows that his parents' death is what caused him to become Batman and they know about Robin.  Snyder uses the cover of Batman testing new tech to introduce the reader to the three former Robins who happen to be in town.  And he starts things off with a bang. The actual opening of the issue is a poetic opening that goes to show how comics have evolved s...

    Batman done right 0

This isn't a must buy, but it's pretty darn close. It is however a great introduction to the character of Bruce Wayne and those around him. I think this book would have been better as the 'TEC #1 though as it has more detective elements to it.Every technique used in this book was brilliantly used. The characters were spot on and i filled you in on the bits of Batman's past without ramming it down your throat. It allowed you to get into the mind of Batman and instead of the brooding we usually ge...

A Dark Knight We All Know And Love 0

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo set the mood for the Dark Knight Detective. As New 52 has rebooted DC's continuity, we will see a Batman we all are familiar with. Snyder creates the perfect first issue of Batman's brand new adventure. The GoodNew 52 has really done a number on the DC Universe, a share amount of good has come out of the birth of New 52. With multiple new stories and creation of new origin story lines, we get to live during an amazing time of comics. DC Comics' Batman will be, if not...

Tomorrow Is One Dream Away 0

The Story: Bruce Wayne delivers a speech about his future plans for Gotham but has to leave the party to investigate a crime scene where he finds a shocking discovery. My Thoughts:With the new DC reboot, this was one of the series I was anticipating the most. Aside from it being Batman, the names Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo alone are enough to make you want to buy this. I had complete and utter faith in the creative team that they would deliver a thrilling series and they sure didn't disappoin...

    Gotham City is "Awesome" 1

Simply amazing as to how professional the starting point of this issue was introduced. With writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo introducing the first part of the Knife Trick, Batman finds himself involved within two separate stories as both costumed hero of the night investigating a “weak link” at Arkham and as the multi-millionaire Bruce Wayne who’s decided to reshape Gotham City into something much better. Two different stories that are both bound to enter-twine with each other when B...

    Good Start! 0

The beginning of this issue starts as a wonderful monologue. This is carried throughout. Many of my favorite issues of Batman comics have contained this technique. What I REALLY loved about this comic was the first few opening pages. Some of the coolest style and a great storytelling technique with a little surprise. The art could have been better overall but as I read the comic the deftness with which it was implemented with truly impressed me. All sins aren't forgiven but I won't hold anything...

    Phenomenal 0

Hot off his run on Detective Comics, Scott Snyder has Bruce Wayne all over the present day DCU fighting criminals to having him back at Wayne Manor. He finds that somebody is going to attempt to kill him as Bruce Wayne. I was really looking forward to this book as I wanted to see how good Scott Snyder was at writing Batman, considering how positively received his run featuring Dick Grayson as Batman in Detective Comics was. I expected goo things from and I was blown away by it.We find Batman in ...

Move aside Dick, Bruce Wayne is back in town. 1

Synopsis: Bruce Wayne is back as Batman as the protector of Gotham City. What's Good?Scott Snyder has written some incredible stuff. He's known for American Vampire (Which I really need to read), but his work with Detective Comics and Gates of Gotham featuring Dick Grayson, stand out the most for me. If he could write stories like that with Dick Grayson, think about what he can do with the original Batman, Bruce Wayne. While this book wasn't high on my pull list, only because I knew without a dou...

A New Era for Batman 0

I can't tell you how excited I was to pick up this issue. Scott Snyder has been my favorite Batman writer for the past year and I've made that pretty vocal. I got used to his storytelling and style in Detective Comics and was pleased to hear that he'd be taking on the main titled Batman series during the relaunch. I loved his new take on Swamp Thing, so I was hoping he'd bring the same to the table with the new first issue of everyone's favorite Dark Knight.I'm pleased to say that it exceeded my...

    Now THIS is a #1 0

I was so excited about this relaunched title for various reasons. The main reason being that Scott Snyder was attached to it. I fell in love with his work after I read "Gates of Gotham," which, to me, he captured every element that IS Batman. With his name on it, I knew it would be good, but I didn't know it would be THIS good.Okay, so I haven't picked up every single issue of the DC relaunch, but I have picked up most of them. So far, I've been about 70/30 on it. I have really enjoyed about 70%...

With All Adam Strange's Tech & Supes' Invulnerability Life's Easy 1

Never thought I'd live to see the day when I'd say, the latest issue of Batman wasn't as good as the latest issue of Aquaman. But, that's exactly what I'm saying right now.  A lot of what I don't like about this incarnation of Batman has to do with one of my biggest complaints with superheroes today. A problem I call "power-creep", basically the idea that any superhero written by a whole series of writers will inevitably become more and more powerful over time.   For example, when this issue ope...

With great artwork and a solid opening story, this makes way for a great series in the future. I loved the art by Capullo inside and out. I also loved how the book got new readers aboard by intoducing all the characters from the beginng of the book until the end, we also get to see all the Robins together. As a new reader myself to DC I never felt lost. I can not wait for issue #2 and looking forward to what happens in the future. One of my favorites yet!! a 5 out of 5!!!...

Gotham Is... Nothing Without Batman 0

What an issue, and please, do not take that statement lightly. This is the type of issue that Batman fans, both new and old, will be able to embrace whole-heartedly. This book was ranked as a pretty high priority on my 'New 52" buy list... and I'm so glad it was. Thank you to the entire team that made this book possible. That being said, there's really no need for me to continue this review, but for the sake of doing a review that might do this book justice, I'll give it a shot. Here I go:The Go...

    Favorite of the Week 1

High expectations surpassed are the ideal experience for a comic reader, in my opinion, gifting us with that rare moment of overwhelming fan glee. As one of the most anticipated first issues of the month, this title had a fair amount of work cut out for it. Hopes riding on this issue were not just significant for the most devout of Batman fans, but also because it is sure to be one of the most widely read jumping on points, as indicated by preliminary sales. Most people can get excited about rea...

A Tale Of One City 0

The Good: Greg Capullo's artwork is AWESOME. Creepy and moody in the perfect way for Gotham City. And he draws most of Batman's villains amazingly well. The action sequences have so much dynamism and force to them, exactly the right amount for Batman, and his panel layouts are pretty excellent. Contrasting the overly sci-fi level of technology in Batman Inc., Snyder knows how to give Bruce better tech without going too far. A lot of the things he introduces here are advancements of what Dick had...

Sure To Drive You Batty! 0

And I mean that in a good way. Before the 'New 52', I had not picked up a DC comic as often as I do now. I started experimenting with all the restarted series' and, above all, 'Batman' is unquestionably at the top of my list! I expected the entire comic to be dark-toned and grueling because of the cover, but the Dynamic Duo of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo proved me wrong. The Good:Where do I begin? Well first off, let me just say Greg Capullo's art exceeds expectations. We get a modernized versio...

A start to something great 0

Finally, Bruce Wayne is back in his book. Bruce is back in Gotham and better than ever. I've been waiting for Bruce's return for a long time. This issue is a great homage to the past and it moves forward enough so the new readers can jump on pretty well. I love the break out scene because it nods to a familiar character from Snyder's Detective Comics run, and it has a surprise. The art is fantastic, it reminds me of Batman: Year One art in some ways. It really feels it lays the groundwork for so...

    Bat's More Like It 0

Terrible pun of the title aside, this is Batman as he should be. The Batman who appears in Detective Comics does not feel like a proper Batman to me, but here he absolutely shines. Detective has always been considered the more prestigious Batbook, so it seems odd they would put Snyder on this title instead. The Dark Knight does way more detective work in this issue than he does in the actual detective comics. There is a lot to like in this issue. I think the most brilliant touch was Bruce's retin...

I´ve finally read this! I´ve been doing a lot of stuff this last wekends...This surprise me after all this year, I´ve been trying to read something good, sincerely Tony Daniel wasn´t SO good on Batman, He´s OK, but this Batman #1, has NO comparision with the Tony Daniel Batman. The Beginning of the issue was cool, introducing the ¨Gotham Is¨ on Gotham Gazzette, the 2 page of the arkham inmates was surprising. Also the 2 page of the Bat-Cave, the plot was excellent, the Greg Capullo´s Draws was Ma...

Batman returns back to Gotham and fights new enemies too. Batman looks cool and really has upgraded and changed alot. The story is done very well by Scott Synder, who really tells an amazing story. The art is amazing and spectacular by Greg Capullo, who really is an incredible artist. Batman has new technology and we get to see the male Robins all together. Overall I'm giving a 5/5 because it has an amazing story, spectacular art and we will leave you wanting more. Synopsis   As Batman suppresses another breakout at Arkham Asylum, his civilian ego Bruce Wayne wows Gotham's elite with his plans for the city. However, the enigmatic Court of Owls plays it's opening hand...The Good   Straight off the bat (pun intended!), writer Scott Synder explores the idea that Batman and his home Gotham City are both explicitly linked ("Gotham is the "Bat" being one quote in the issue). Good:I enjoyed the art work, not as much as I did Detective Comics #1- But it was still great. Grayson as the Joker caught me off guard! I loved how Bruce and his Robins (minus Jason :( ) are together in their tuxedos . I also enjoyed Bruce and Dick's new relationship in this comic, clearly Bruce has no problem relying on Dick's help, and Dick no longer feels over shadowed by Bruce. The introduction of a new villain was quiet interesting to me.Bad:Although Batman's arsenal of gadgets is more and...

Comic Review -- Batman #1: Knife Trick / Scott Snyder, Greg Capul 0

Originally posted to my blog, The Comics Cove, not too long ago...Batman #1Well, I can definitely get into the cover here. It's dark, it's desperate... it's Batman facing off against a big crowd of his worst enemies. Not a bad intro to the issue. And, as it turns out, the cover isn't lying this time. The story starts out in Arkham Asylum, with Batman surrounded by a big crowd of his worst enemies, which of course is almost never boring to watch. His team-up with Dick Grayson's "Joker" is of course...

Batman hits the New 52 where it counts 0

SummaryAs I open up my brand new copy of Batman #1, I am greeted by the first page, in which we have Batman talking about the current state of Gotham and a newspaper column where people try to finish the sentence "Gotham is" in three words or less. Most responses are negative, claiming that the city is "cursed", or "damned". And on the first page we get to see how Gotham is dark, worn-down, tiring. Flip the page again and we get a scene where many villains, such as the Scarecrow, Two-Face, Mr. F...

The Beginning of Something Great 0

One of the titles I was most excited about reading in the New 52 was Scott Snyder's Batman. This issue did not disappoint and was easily my favorite of the #1s. The cover which presents a Batman struggling against familiar foes to the opening monologue from Batman about what Gotham City is all against the backdrop of an All Star Arkham Brawl where Bats gets an assist that will blow your mind. From the beginning, Scott Snyder sets the stage that this arc is going to be about Batman's relationship...

IntroductionThe story starts off interesting with Batman facing off against a horde of his worst enemies. Who begin to kick his ass, a shocking and strange revelation then occurs where upon Joker joins the fray and helps Batman to fend off the attack. However this is later shown to be Dick Grayson in disguise. Making me wonder what the bloody hell was the point of the first seven pages other then to introduce the design of a several Batman villains, considering that the first event and the main s...

WritingScott Snyder, cooks up a fantastic story for the re introduction of the Detective. Bringing Batman to the newer crowds he uses every small way to make the issue fantastic t read. He starts with an action sequence involving the top brass of criminals. Introduces tech which is plausible and useful. Gives a grand speech setting the main theme for the story. And follows by a cliff hanger. Everything you would need in an introductory issue.ArtGreg Capullo's art is fantastic throughout the issu...

    A Book Review of a Comic 0

This story arc brought me into comics four or five months ago. I have always been a tremendous Batman fan, but I have never considered reading comics until now. I did not read the arc in a particularly correct order, and it has been quite a bit of time since I have read this issue, but I wish to give my opinion regardless. As I am new to comics, I am appalled at the literary quality of Scott Snyder's writing. As too much text in a comic is considered "wordy," it is difficult to make the writing p...
