Same Old...
Gail Simone is a great writer. Her past work has been some of my favorite things to read. Her writing Batgirl seemed like a natural selection based off of her Birds of Prey work. Now that we are five issues in, does Gail have what it takes to writer Babs as Batgirl once again?
THE GOOD:
I really like the art. It has a very special feeling in the colors and it's just amazing. The lines are well defined and you know what you are looking at the second you see it. Ardian Syaf is a good edition to this book and I hope that he stays for a long time. The story is where I feel the quality slips a bit. I love Gail Simone a lot and she is one of my favorite writers, however, I'm not in love with this series so far. In this issue we get to see Batgirl fight people she knew a long time ago. They are fighting and then a woman comes into the fight. It's all very confusing to me and we get little explanation. I really liked some of the jokes Babs tells and I really like her inner dialog.
THE BAD:
I didn't really like the last villain. He felt a little to easy to beat after this long fight he put up. I get the feeling that this villain is going to be the same. I also don't know what the numbers have to do with anything but they seem to be important for some reasons we don't know. I also wish that they would've kept Bruce Wayne out of this...
THE VERDICT: 3/5 (Okay)
Gail Simone is a great writer, but I'm just not feeling it with this series so far. She is great at writing the character, I just wish that she would put her in something greater. If you like Batgirl, you may want to get this depending what Batgirl you like. If you like a good comic, this is definitely something you might like, I just don't like it.
