Gail Simone is a great writer. Her past work has been some of my favorite things to read. Her writing Batgirl seemed like a natural selection based off of her Birds of Prey work. Now that we are five issues in, does Gail have what it takes to writer Babs as Batgirl once again?   THE GOOD: I really like the art. Introduction of a new tough villain - Gretel! Sounds like a gr8 mystery with this one.On a personal front, we get to know a little bit about how Barbara got her leg & an introduction of Barbara's mother - who suprisingly looks very similar to Barbara with red hair and in some panels it is difficult to differentiate by faces! Good, Just Not Compelling 0

Gail Simone is a great writer. I can't stress that enough. This is why it's such a disappointment to get a story that's just so average. It's not exactly bad in any way, it just isn't that compelling. I'm not feeling really wrapped up in the story, and it doesn't really feel like it stands out from the rest of the Batman family stuff.I mean, ok, Gretel seems like an interesting villain, with the color changing hair, and the 338 hypnosis that only seems to apply to males.
