A shattered list.
Batgirl # 1
YAY it's finally here! The all-new Batgirl series! Let me just say this series is one that I was most excited for, for two reasons! One reason being that I was finally gonna get to read Barbara Gordon as Batgirl because I never really read her as Batgirl before, and the other reason being that GAIL SIMONE WAS WRITING THIS ! I love her work and style! I support anything she writes! This issue is just so that we can get a taste or glimpse of how Barbara is going to be as Batgirl. There's a new villain in town for her to face called the Mirror, his motive is to eliminate anyone he has on his "list" and he gets most of them, except he hasn't gotten to Barbara yet DUHN DUHN DUHNNN! Meanwhile in Babs' normal life she's moving out her dad's house and living in an apartment! Also she is trying to still cope with the fact that she's not paralyzed any more and that she's able to walk and do all of the regular things she used to do! Like being Batgirl!
The GOOD!
I really liked this issue! Seeing Barbara back to her roots is awesome! I love that she's batgirl again, it feels very retro but modern at the same time. I like the fact that THE KILLING JOKE is still included and that it actually happened. What I also like is that Babs is moving on with her life. This mirror guy seems very cool and ruthless! It was also fun seeing Babs take down those low rate criminals in some family's house.
Art: The art I thought was solid! I really like how Adrian Syaf draws Barbara, especially when fighting. But my favorite art out of this whole issue is most definitely ADAM HUGHES! If you've seen some of my recent Zatanna reviews, then you know how much I love Adam Hughes' work!
The BAD!
I still have some questions though. Being that the killing joke actually happened, then does that mean Babs was Oracle for a time? I mean what's really changed here with Babs? I like that she's able to walk again but they just use the excuse that it was a miracle, I kinda wanted more of an explanation.
The Verdict!
I thought this was a pretty good start to the series. Hopefully some of my questions get answered down the line! I say pick it up! 4 out of 5!
