I just came across this image and I must say, I'm debating whether or not to move into the mountains and write a manifesto... This comic, available next Wednesday (6/24/09) is everything that is WRONG with the industry right now.
Barack the Barbarian #1
Barack Obama
Character » Barack Obama appears in 435 issues.
Forty-Fourth President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama II is the first Biracial President and is a comic book character.
The image that made me HATE comics...
" WTF is this!? There not even asking for Obama's permission on these come on!!You don't need permission to use the face of the President. Essentially, public figures become public domainI mean I'll buy it cause Obamas in it, but this is pushing it.And that isn't even Michelle on his leg."

As a faithful Conan The Barbarian fan, I want to tear my eyes out right about now.
" @SUNMAN said:Seconded"...I'll buy it cause Obamas in it..."Now that is what's wrong with the industry. "
I disagree that this is everything that is wrong with comics these days.
What is wrong with DC comics is a desperate need to bring back the silver age (which generally sucked) at the expense of fun.
What is wrong with Marvel comics is the need for crossover events that don't make sense at the expense of fun.
That being said, I do agree that we dont' need Obama comics.
Why all the supposed need to add Obama in all of the comics?
I applaud DC for not following Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, etc in this
"Why all the supposed need to add Obama in all of the comics?I applaud DC for not following Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, etc in this"Did Marvel do an Obama comic or has he just made appearances?
I don't see a problem with Obama showing up when it calls for the president to show up (they essentially did that when Bush was in office).
" @Chaos Agent said:Mostly (as well as in other companies except for IDW) it's only appearances. That said when Marvel or other companies make a lot of buzz about the appearance like with the Spiderman/Obama team-up it just feels wrong"Why all the supposed need to add Obama in all of the comics?I applaud DC for not following Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, etc in this"Did Marvel do an Obama comic or has he just made appearances?I don't see a problem with Obama showing up when it calls for the president to show up (they essentially did that when Bush was in office). Don't get me wrong, I think its great that our country passed alot of racial barriers and elected its 1st black president. But I mean come on people... he's our president not a friggin iconic celebrity. (not supposed to be IMO) I just don't understand why people are all up on the man's nutz. Is that supposed to be Dick Cheney in the background???
and then there's that ridiculously retarded "President Evil" thing coming out soon. Seriously, it's like the comic book industry has become some giggling school girl with a crush typing internet slash fiction.
Course we can blame SOME of it on those who made that Spider-Man Obama issue sell like hotcakes.
" @Gambler said:Whats to be offended by?" Looks kinda badass to me. Its got that "Black Conan" vibe to it. I think I found my new avatar. "LOL - this is so uncalled for that I can't be offended by it. "
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you know its a fact. you cant hate something, that you dont love.
you have to have passionate feelings for it, before you can feel betrayed by it.lol.
otherwise it wouldnt matter.
Double standard here...you think palins hot but don't like the President Obama one?...evolve people..it's 2009 for pete's sake.
Since when did so many bigots start reading comics? Seems to me that if you can root for someone green or red or blue that you'd be more spiritually enlightened....guess not.
Obama must stop appearing in comics and the Obama worship has to stop.
It's nothing but propaganda and mind control.

I'm pretty sure heterosexual men will chose the first one.
So we're all racist if we don't want our president whored on every piece of merchandise available?

"No one said she was hot. It's ALL laughable. You're the only person in here making a remark about skin color, so what makes the rest of us bigots? "
@Michael6ft7 says: Apparently you dont read well. Scroll up and you will see at least 2 references to her being hot and one of President Obama being a gimp. A guilty horse usually flinches. I didnt make a remark about anyones skin color. The litmus test of a bigot is not their mentioning a fellow americans pigment, but their obvious bias and disdain for someone for no other apparent reason other than their greater protection to UV rays.
Read more carefully and evolve.

"@Aronmorales: Ummm...this one is. The media has made him into a friggin rock star. "
Obama is a popular president...and he's doing a lot of good for the country...can't understand why some dislike him so. We are in tough times...and he's our president...seems quite unamerican to not get behind him and help...or at the very least not demean him at every turn.
I would submit that a president is infinitely more important than a rock star...what do they rock stars do?...use illegal drugs, objectify women and promote a lack of morals through their lyrics? Hardly anything that should be celebrated. Saving a country from the brink however...
on a short serious serious note. Obama isnt staring in comic books. thats not a live person. thats a drawing.
thats something artists are choosing to do. theyre depicting him. sometimes in a positive normal manner, sometimes in satirical,
and im not sure where the surprise is in satire seeing the current prominant figure show up? nor seeing that in anything really.
we didnt see alot of the last president, other than alot of the back of his head. then again he was notable for throwing entertainers
in jail who talked about him and having satire about him shut down, so thats notable. lastly, Obama is a supporter personally of the
comics industry. naturally we'll see him on our end. which is a good thing in my mind that Capitol Hill has a special place for
our favorite reads right now. outside the last fact, it wouldnt be any differant if Hilary was president right now. In fact she already appeared in some herself, of course in the satirical ones. but if she was in the big chaiir, she would likewise be the one gracing the covers.
Number of Presidential appearances in Comics (according to the vine)
