Consequences, Indeed.
Recommendation: “Yikes, not really, unless you want some filler tie-in related to AvX and Uncanny Avengers…”
Another AvX title, another Variant Cover. Sigh. And this one isn’t even “special”. Sure, it is Cyclops, but that is a pretty generic cover for a variant. I guess they will get better from issue to issue because their incentive ratio is increasing? Let’s hope.
You may wonder why I am concentrating on a “collection” aspect of this book, instead of the content… well that is just it - I am not sure there is a lot of value to this book beyond its “collection completion” value.
The story is lack-luster and the art is… difficult to adjust to. I am used to these characters looking a specific (or nearly specific) way, and this art does not do “that look” justice. This is nothing against the artist, I respect the amount of work it takes… it is just a style that doesn’t fit with how I see the characters - thus it distracts me from the story.
That is the other thing, the story is easy to get distracted away from… as it really isn’t much of a story - yet? Hopefully. The characters seem “weird”. I understand that something horrible has happened. But still, many of them are acting oddly out of character.
I was happy to see they are tying up a lot of loose ends left at the end of AvX. It was nice to finally hear about Cable - heck, we hadn’t heard about him since X-Sanction…
Anyway, this 5-part mini-series should (hopefully) answer some questions and possibly get better as it goes along. I believe it is weekly, so at least it will be over quick, whether it gets better or not.
