Maybe Spidey will get to say "Avengers, assemble" in this series
Synopsis: Spider-Man teams up with Rulk.
What's Good?
What I noticed about the two Avengers books that Spider-Man is a part of is that he seems like a fifth wheel in both groups. He's the funny (annoying) guy that just pisses you off especially when the situation is serious (and the way both series has been so far, there have been some tense situations). But let's put it in Spidey's perspective. While he did some amazing things as a superhero, I can understand why he feels out of place with heroes like Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, and so on, as seen in the opening pages. So this book seems like the perfect way for Spidey to interact with his fellow Avengers (and possibly other heroes in the future).
First up is Red Hulk or Rulk. To be completely honest, I'm not really a fan of Red Hulk, but Spidey's interaction with him is just pure gold. The jokes come out left to right immediately drawing my attention and dissolving my dislike for Red Hulk little at a time. The story itself seems out of the ordinary with Mole Man and his Moloids showing up, along with a huge creature. Jonah Jameson also make a impact as well, being frustrated by the antics.
Oh, and did I mention this takes place a little while after Spider-Island? Hence, Spider-Man having his Spider-senses again?
I probably would have pass on this series (and come back to it later) and just stick with Amazing Spider-Man if Joe Madureira wasn't the artist. If you know me, I'm a fan of manga inspired, cartoony artwork, and seeing how I'm coming off Spider-Island with Humberto Ramos, I feel right at home.
What's Bad?
Couldn't I get this book without a digital copy included? I know Marvel is trying to promote, but really, I almost didn't pick this up because of the extra dollar added but, then again, it's Spider-Man.
Despite how incredible his artwork is, if you follow Madurira's work in the past, you can't pass up noticing the delays he had with other works (Ultimates 3). I'm hoping this won't be the case with this series (but it's likely).
Overall:
As I wrote before, I'm not really a huge fan of Red Hulk, but it's nice to see Spider-Man teaming up with different superheroes from time to time outside his own series. I'm reading Amazing Spider-Man and Ultimate-Spider-Man, but I think I can make room for one more Spider-Man title.
