Every time I try and give it another shot, I just get more irritated about the heroes fighting each other.
Avengers
Team » Avengers appears in 7694 issues.
The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes and foremost super-team... "There came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born - to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Heed the call, then - for now, the Avengers Assemble!"
Anyone else tired of Hickman's Avengers?
@avengpymhawk: That sure as heck doesn't stop him.
And another thing; How the heck does the continuity work in Avengers/New Avengers?
Hickman is a terrible character writer. The only character he's actually written (not really) well is T'Challa and its at the expense of Namor. Which makes it hollow at best. And I don't even like Namor.
The first thing I read by him was East of West and its even worse. The characters are horrid and the story is so convoluted its almost unreadable.
@fallschirmjager: How about FF?
@waezi2: Never read it. I've avoided him since reading East of west and New Avengers. Wasn't impressed with either despite the supposed "critical acclaim"

Pretty much. His characters are props to be used in convoluted stories.
You are all mad because you don't understand whats happening
@billy_batson: I did. Luke is a prick.
*Anyone else tired of Hackman?
Fixed that for you.
Fixed that for you.

@billy_batson: Or you could just read Secret Avengers, which is actually good. :P
I love the story that Hickman has been telling in Avengers/New Avengers. It is complex and mature and has a lot of great moments. It is a story that constantly goes in unexpected directions and makes it hard to guess how it will end. He does a very good job of building up conflict and the stories are so interesting that the pages don't need to be filled with action to make it enjoyable.
I don't mind how he is handling the characters either. They are facing an impossible situation and each doing what they think is right. I like the way he shows their struggles in their decisions. Steve Rogers is my favorite comic character of all time and I like what they have done to him for the purposes of this story. It is not a personality that I would want to be a permanent part of his character, but it is excellent in this story as it all comes full circle from him warning the illuminati and then being betrayed.
If you haven't already read it, Hickman's Secret Warriors is among my favorite Marvel runs of all time and his Fantastic Four is up there as well.

I've seen many not liking Secret Avengers.

I think Namor is actually well written in New Avengers. Believe it or not, in real life, people are as*holes. Namor is an asshole. He pretty much always has been. I don't see the issue with how he's being portrayed.

Really? It's got a great artist in Walsh and Kot is killing it with a nice sense of humor and an interconnected story which has been pulled off well. Also any book containing a MODOK love story is great.

Yeah, Kot's writing and humor seems to be a love it/hate it kind of thing.
The series also has Coulson, Spider-Woman and Maria Hill :/

I am one of those people. I tried giving it a few chances but it just wasn't my thing. I really want to like it because of the comedy and Hawkeye but all of the other characters keep irritating me.

Is it any similar to his brief run in Suicide Squad?

Pretty much how I feel about the two books.
I agree. I am so tired with Hero vs Hero fight. I think New Avengers and Avengers arent on same timeline unless it is crossover.
Nope I love it ^_^
What can I say I like the fact that he is handling so many characters at a time and trying his level best to do justice to each of them.

- Coulson is sort of interesting in SA.
- Spider-Woman has a talking bomb friend.
- Maria hill has a love story with MODOK.
Kot's doing god's work with Secret Avengers!

Heroes fighting each other?
That's just this arc
He wrote Fantastic Four pretty well and it was one of the best runs I have read of FF...
I do like his version of Doom though...
For me Hickman is story teller. Hickman style of writing doesn't have character driven and character development. It always about moving the plot. Yes it is good, plot is moving forward but if we reader never get invested with characters and never feel any emotions to characters then it is not good if you ask me...
Hickman's only good bok is Fantastic FOur. His Avengers/New Avengers is praised a lot but it is pretty mediocre and is nothing that special. I would love to see someone else write the Avengers instead of him because he simply ruins everything for me.
Have you read S.H.I.E.L.D. or Secret Warriors? I think he's little more constrained by the fact that he's now on Avengers, so maybe its not his best effort, but still better than most.

I've read S.H.I.E.L.D. and I highly disliked it. Secret Warriors is on my reading list but I still haven't found time to read it but I know that it is a good book. I actually think that Hickman is doing his best and is trying to make it an essential Avengers story but things aren't clicking for him.
Not just Hickman, but I don't think there are real superhero scribes left at Marvel anymore (except for a few like Mark Waid, Peter David and Al Ewing). Marvel is run by glorified Indy writers obsessed by bringing "gritty realism" to a fantastical world, often at the expense of its characters. It's why you get story arcs where the characters are treated as props to whatever direction the writer wants to move in.
Haven't read enough of his Avengers to merit an opinion but East of West is awesome.

I liked his FF too.
I think Namor is actually well written in New Avengers. Believe it or not, in real life, people are as*holes. Namor is an asshole. He pretty much always has been. I don't see the issue with how he's being portrayed.
He is. But Cap is poorly portrayed.
@captainmarvel4ever: Why him?
@waezi2: He's shown he's really good with multiple characters, he makes great use of continuity, does a fantastic job with proper characterization, plus he's really into space and very knowledgeable of it, and Marvel's been pushing the Avengers more and more towards space recently, so he could probably come up with some really compelling stories for the team.
OP needs to expand on the heroes fighting heroes point because that didn't happen before this arc IIRC
@grenadeflow: I'm tired of it now. I wasn't tired of it at the Infinity event. And it did led up to the hero VS hero fight since Illuminati brainwashed Captain Hypocrite.

This is so so true, and it's kinda sad. In recent years the Marvel heroes haven't really felt much like heroes. Sure they fight the good fight, but they've kinda lost that heroic "comic-booky" feel as of late.
I'm hoping now that Charles Soule has been given such a good position at Marvel he can change this, he genuinely seems more interested in writing about superheroes then most other writers these days, which is a very good thing.
Just read Mighty Avengers.

Is Land still on art duties?
@jaken7: Nope.
