Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #4
Minor Spoilers
Well here we are. Just about midway through Avengers & X-Men: AXIS and finally on the second chapter titled Inversion. Is the event finally catching up speed and getting better? Short answer, yes. I really did enjoy this issue on the whole far more than I did the past three issues. However, I must say, even if I do enjoy the content we have here, it’s still suffering from the same issues it’s been having all the way through, in my opinion.
First of all, the event doesn’t really seem to be telling a real, solid story and focusing on that story. We spend most of our time with the status quo changes we’re getting. Which some I like, some I don’t, and one in particular I’m super omg it’s finally happening ahhha about. Anyways, I suppose this sort of thing should be expect as this is the first issue of the inversion chapter of the book, but it feels like we’ve been doing status quo changes since the last three issues already. We haven't really spent much time fleshing out the status quo changes from the last three issues. I also can’t really see it going very many places story-wise. I can see them fooling around in this status quo and telling some fun stories within it… but still, that’s more of what’s being done in the tie-ins. Such as Superior Iron Man.
Speaking of Superior Iron Man, that is one status quo change I do think looks like a lot of fun and I’m definitely planning on picking up that book once it hits the stands next week. Though I’m sure just about everyone knows what he’s up to, I won’t spoil it here just in case.
Not a big fan of the whole Kluh thing either. And still... the name's silly.
If you know me, you know that I really love the little X-Men status quo change in here and god do I hope it stays after this storyline ends. Although, like the whole Kid Apocalypse reveal last issue… I’m sorta annoyed that this little plot point that’s been building up for so long would be resolved in a place where just so many other things are occurring.
The whole inversion thing itself is a little silly here, which it really has to be given it doesn’t have a whole lot of time to set it all up, but I am looking forward to looking at it within other books… even if I’m still not quite sure how the whole thing works yet, but again, I think it’ll be explained in a later issue.
Anyways, all in all, Avengers and X-Men AXIS #4 was yet again another set up issue, introducing to all the new status quo changes in result from World War Hate. I’m really hoping this will start to pick up and develop more of an internal story rather than just constantly introducing us to brand new status quo changes, but given we’re almost half way through, I wouldn’t exactly count on it. But again, not really a bad issue, and I definitely enjoyed it for my $3.99.
…oh right and there was one thing that bothered me, does evil Hulk not wear pants?
Look at him! He’s not wearing pants!
