Another issue of Avengers: Children's Crusade is here and it's time to celebrate...until you see some of what happens in here.
The Good
Yes it's been over two months but once you start reading, you're not going to care. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung deliver a solid action packed issue. Last issue we saw the return of Iron Lad and all let out a collective "Whaaaa....?!?" If that wasn't enough, we see even more characters return in this one. There are twists and turns throughout that adds icing to the this sweet cake of an issue.
Heinberg's story keeps you on the edge of your seat and is full of crazy action scenes. Visually, Cheung's artwork is such a treat. Avengers, Young Avengers, Doctor Doom, Scarlet Witch, Magneto...there's so much going on here and the issue is a blast.
The Bad
I do wish this issue came out on a tighter schedule. It will make an excellent story collected in a trade (preferably in hardcover, in my opinion). I'm still wondering how the whole, Doctor Doom about to marry Wanda thing came about. We still have the continuity factors there but they can be easily ignored because of the quality of the story and art.
The Verdict
This comic makes me happy. Normally when release schedules are a little wacky, the interruption in the flow hampers my enjoyment of the series. With Children's Crusade, that can be overlooked simply by the compelling story with crazy action by Allan Heinberg along with the gorgeous artwork by Jim Cheung. There are some big twists and turns here along with a couple shocking moments. The story has such a grand scale feel to it that it almost takes you away from everything, including other comics set in the Marvel Universe. The story is one that will be great collected and read over and over. I can't wait for the next issue to see what crazy shenanigans we'll have.
