just not fun or rewarding or even interesting
I felt suckered into buying this because I'm such a Hulk fan and his relationship with the Avengers has always been one of the most intriguing things about his character for me.
And funnily enough, the best part of the issue was an exchange between the Hulk and the Avengers where Thor pointed out the reason that the Avengers formed in the first place was because of the Hulk, to which Hulk responds "Don't put that on me.". Sadly, that's the only part of the issue I enjoyed.
We get one of Brian Bendis' trademark scenes with the Avengers getting their asses kicked (haven't you heard about the Avengers? the still suck apparently). It's just not fun or rewarding or even interesting to watch a character like Thor get knocked out instantly by a man who is a bull. I get that a villain needs to be set up as a viable threat, but the way Bendis has done it since he started writing Avengers is just to have the Avengers beaten by them. We also get some of our expected "choosing his own continuity" from Bendis, in that there's already a Zodiac and he's awesome. No mention whatsoever of him though.
Mark Bagley's art is surprisingly a bit disappointing too. It may be the inking since Bagley is usually great fun, but a lot of the figures and fluidness just isn't there. Everything seems a bit... just there. And I found the talking scenes just don't play to Bagley's strength either.
The plot is really nothing special in the slightest, the only reason you would have for buying this book is to see Hulk mix it up with the Avengers which you'd probably be better served waiting for the Hulk Smash miniseries later this year. This title shouldn't've even saw release when titles like Victor Von Doom and Destroyers were cancelled before they even released an issue, this adds nothing to the Marvel Universe except reminding us that the Avengers, even when they're the same line-up as the movie, just are a bunch of pathetic losers who can't win a fight.
