matkrenz's Avengers Academy #10 - Redemption Song review

    Way too much crammed in.

    Issue #10 of Avenger's Academy.

Cover: Yeah im finally talking about the cover since I have a love/hate relationship, why ? Well we have Dr.Strange and Noh-Var fighting some sort of squid monster wich is awesome but it's ruined by Stryker saying Worst.Class.Ever like the freaking Comic Book Guy.And I gotta ask this question but how is DOCTOR STRANGE AND NOH-VAR AGAINST A GIANT SQUID MONSTER translate into worst class ever ? To me this is the coolest class ever.

The Story: In Ethics Class Veil mentions Speedball being involved in the Stamford incident and says that they are taking a field trip to that place in the next couple of days.Veil see's Robert using his old Penance helmet to cut himself. And Hazmat is able to go outside for a couple of hours thanks to the mutant Leech were she finally meets her parents. They arrive at Stamford and they get attcked by a bunch of guys in cheap knockoffs of Cobalt Man's armor. And at the end everybody find's out about Robbie's cutting and Veil once again goes into the room where Wasp was.

The Good: The whole bit with Speedball and Stamford was nice and showed insight to the character and I am also interested in the problem with his powers. The inner monologue with Veil were good and it does show that she is just a teenage girl and she would just blurt stuff out. Also I like this art by Chen more then Mckone art.

The Bad: I commend Cage for having each issue being a one shot because those are always cool but there was just so much stuff in here it would not have hurt it at all if this was a 2 issue arc, seriously I would not have been a problem with me.We have Hazmat having meeting her parents outside of her containement suit,we have Speedball and the whole Stamford thing and we have 2 more guest instructors with Doctor Strange and Noh-Var wich quite honestly is more interesting since Strange was looking into Reptil's amulet and Noh-Var was teaching them about alien creatures and hell on the cover we have both of them fighting a giant squid monster and I want this issue to be about that. Not saying that the stuff in the issue shound't be addresed at some point but I want my big magic. Also I find it funny that any person that say they are okay with mutants and have friends that are mutants are usually lying or actually racist, case and point Hazmat's parents and Topher in Runaways vol 1.

The Verdict: This issue has good ideas but there is just so may things packed into it one issue and really it should have been 2 issues and it is great to see an improvement in the art. This isn't worth the money.

Cover:    I actually found this cover (finally relatable, though minorly, to the inside material) pretty funny.  I like the word bubble on it, gives it a nostalgic feeling.  Also, I like how Dr. Strange is rocking out.  The Good:  The pace, the realistic dialogue and characterizations; we can somewhat relate to a lot of these characters.  There's something about failed instructors (well, they're great teachers, just have done so many wrong things in their time) and teenagers full of angst that h...

      A Day Off 0

While this issue is more focused on Veil and Hazmat, the first one trying to atone for her mistakes and bad judgment (joining the party to kick the Hood´s ass), the second one is looking for a way out, for hope of being normal again, able to touch somebody without killing everyone around her (it feels like a Rogue thing, but more tragic), there´re plenty of lessons for the teachers too, in special Robbie Baldwin, the Speedball - Gage brings the so commom thread of Stamford´s disaster to the tabl...
