Avengers #1

So we got Hickman on the writing and Opeña pencilling... Needless to say, I had high expectations for this comic. Thankfully, they were fulfilled. The plot can be a little bit confusing at first, but as the story progresses, you'll easily understand. No doubt at all, the book was influenced by the Avengers movie, and, to be honest, I thought that was a really bad thing at first, but once I finished the comic I wanted the team to be the one shown in the high grossing movie. The thing is, the issue was so much fun with Cap, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Widow that in the end, I didn't want Spider-Man or Ms. Marvel to appear further on in the series.

The issue is full of action. It is beautifully presented by Opeña, and the whole thing actually looked like a live action film. The choice of villains is brilliant and they should prove to be a challenge to earth's mightiest heroes, as the bad guys weren't actually defeated. The scenario reminded me of Tabula Rasa in The Dark Angel Saga. The writing and the art really reminded me of Uncanny X-Force, and trust me, that isn't a bad thing. If you like Remender's book, you should give this one a shot.

Opeña's art is gorgeous. The characters look real, and all of the details are beautifully displayed. Along with Dean White's smooth coloring, the overall artwork is flawless. Hell, it reminded me how much I miss Jerome's pencilling on Uncanny X-Force.

Overall, this was a brilliant issue, and so far, the best one I read this week. If you liked Uncanny X-Force, make sure to give this a shot. I am damn glad this is double shipping, because I don't think I could wait another month for the second issue.
