During World War II, Steve Rogers volunteered to receive the experimental Super-Soldier Serum. Enhanced to the pinnacle of human physical potential and armed with an unbreakable shield, he became Captain America. After a failed mission left him encased in ice for decades, he was found and revived by the Avengers, later joining their ranks and eventually becoming the team's leader.
After having his size-manipulation abilities increased as well as being given the power to absorb energy by Doctor Doom, Atlas (who was still going by the name Goliath) attempted to get Spider-Man to unload all of The Uni-Power into his body. However each time Goliath consumed a portion of The Uni-Power he grew dramatically in size. Eventually it reached the point where had grown so large that his heart gave out. He soon collapsed and all of the energy he had absorbed returned to Spider-Man. This occurred during The Acts of Vengeance Crossover

Originally, Count Nefaria was just an ambitious Maggia Don who hired mad scientists and super-villains. Later, becoming super-powered himself. Luchino stands as one of the Avengers' most powerful enemies, though not one of their most recurring.
A French gangster who inherited the Cyclone suit and name from the deceased villain Andre Gerard. Has worked with the Maggia and Justine Hammer's Masters of Evil, and even briefly operated as a member of Hawkeye's heroic Thunderbolts.

Genis-Vell, the son of Captain Mar-Vell, grew from a wastrel to a cosmic hero. Bonded with Rick Jones, Genis went from hero to an omnipotent madman and ultimately was destroyed to save the universe. When Genis joined up with the T-Bolts, Atlas didn't get along with him.
