Passable if your not a fan of the x-men
Let me just say that o though that this issue was ok, not great just ok. Unlike Ellis' writing on the 'true' Astonishing X-Men book, some of the characters here seemed to be a little off like for example Emma Frost in sections of this book she was believable however, in others she just seemed like an annoying teenager with lines like "No shops, No room service within a thousand miles...I just don't see the appeal" to me like i said this was just not Emma at all. Yet, i found the line "unhand my property" very much something Emma would say. The rest of the characters did come off to be true to their actual character like Storm, she stood up for something she wanted to do and was not the push over she (i think) has become in Uncanny.
On to the art, again here it is hit and miss. I liked the look of Storm and Wolverine Scott Beast, and Armour were ok but not brilliant, even Emma looks good in some panels, but in others she looks terrible namely the scenes on the x-jet. I did think that the look of the team overall was ok not too super hero like, which i guess was the intention after reading the notes at the back.
Overall i think this is going to be an ok series, nothing brilliant will happen in my opinion but it will be ok for a mini series. I just hope that the 'true' Astonishing X-Men come back as soon as this is over. If your a fan of the Astonishing X-Men team then i would advise you to buy this, but then again this is a good point for new readers to get into the team as all the character dynamics are there even if they are just a little off.
this issue gets a 3.5 out of 5
