    Artifacts #22 Review

    Overview:

Tom Judge and Tilly Grimes head to Washington DC to solve a crime.

    The Good:

The story is what one would expect for the first part of an arc in the series and it is solid. The writing is great, the dialogue is great, and the story is good too. This appears to mark the start of a Tom Judge/Rapture centered arc and that is good as he is the main character of this series even though he is relatively unexplored in this new universe.

Ron Marz once again does a great job with the writing in this issue, his dialogue is great and realistic while the story moves along at a great pace that leaves you wanting more. One thing that stood out about this issue is that it had some dialogue that wasn’t needed but made the story more like watching a movie than reading a comic and it really worked out well.

Stjepan Sejic one again provided amazing art. The panels that stood out most were the ones with the demon at the end; they were drawn and colored beautifully. In fact all of the colors in the issue really stood out as better than normal for some reason.

    The Bad:

Tom makes some references about some time he spent in Hell and while it isn’t a huge, issue ruining deal, it is kind of annoying for new readers like myself, who are not as familiar with the character’s backstories. However with Comic Vine and Wikipedia, it all works out.

    Verdict:

Another solid issue from a great and insanely consistent creative team, a good story is lifted by great dialogue, art, and pacing. There was only one bad thing about the issue but it is not insurmountable. If you are not reading this series, you are really missing out.

    4.5 out of 5
