Writer Mark Sable Detained By TSA For Unthinkable Script

TSA agents at LAX detain writer over comic book script.

Mark Sable is the writer for BOOM! Studios' upcoming comic, "Unthinkable."  The premise of the comic is a government think tank is formed to come up with the worst scenarios that terrorists could come up with in order to be prepared against them.  Soon the think tank disbands and the attacks actually start happening.

This past weekend, Sable was detained by TSA security guards at LAX when they found a copy of a script to the third issue of the comic.  He was on his way to New York to do a signing and ended up being subjected to two invasive searches.
The minute I saw the faces of the agents, I knew I was in trouble. The first page of the UNTHINKABLE script mentioned 9/11, terror plots and the fact that the (fictional) world had become a police state. The TSA agents then proceeded to interrogate me, having a hard time understanding that a comic book could be about anything other than superheroes, let alone that anyone actually wrote scripts for comics.

In the end, I feel my privacy is a small price to pay for educating the government about the medium.

So now the TSA Agents are informed.  Not only that, this is great publicity for the comic.  Unthinkable #1 comes out May 13.  I received an advanced copy last week and will read and review it tomorrow.

TSA thugs

A good reason not to fly until they can start treating people like humans instead of farm animals.

See how hard it is to promote a non-Marvel/DC comic? Literally gotta take one (or two) for the team to get your book seen and heard. Mark Sable knows the kind of sacrifices you gotta make to get publicity of this magnitude and I applaud his resolve when promoting the book. I'll buy a copy just out of respect for this guy's principles.

Honestly when I first saw the headline I thought "WTF you can get arrested for unthinkable scripts? why the hell is Loeb still free to walk the streets?" I love me.

They daren't take any chances, just in case something does turn out to be geniune.  This is why they warn you not to make jokes about carrying knives or bombs at airports.

But bless him!  That comment about "[his] privacy is a small price to pay for educating the government about the medium".  He didn't take it personally, he didn't get angry or rant about the TSA... what a trooper!
